Colby Copeland 2nd at Forni Humphreys Classic

PETERSEN MEDIA- Fresh off their big win at Calistoga Speedway, Colby Copeland and C&M Motorsports chased after another big payday on Saturday night at Placerville Speedway’s Forni/Humphreys Classic where the team ultimately secured a second-place finish.

“We had another really solid night on Saturday, but it is also a little bittersweet to lead the first half of the race and finish second,” Colby Copeland said. “I want to give a big thanks to Cody and Bobby for their hard work and giving me a really good car all night.”

31 cars checked into the Placerville Speedway for the track’s regular season finale, and Copeland kicked the night off by timing the NOS Energy Drink/Lund Construction/Anrak backed No. 7c entry in 11th fastest in qualifying time trials.

Lining up on the front row of his heat race, the Roseville, CA native was shot out of a cannon as he stormed into the early lead. Leading from start to finish, Copeland not only punched his ticket into the $10,085-to-win feature event, he also earned a spot in the redraw where he drew the ‘one’.

On a very slick surface with a thick cushion built up on both ends of the track, Copeland got the early jump but instantly felt pressure from Max Mittry. Able to keep Mittry at bay, Copeland looked very strong as he navigated the high side of the speedway at both ends of the track.

Continuing to lead the way, Copeland’s battle with Mittry intensified as the race hit the halfway point.  As the duo began to battle for the top spot, Mittry was able to get the edge over Copeland as he fell back to second.

Back in second, Copeland took on a couple of challenges from the likes of Tony Gomes and Tanner Carrick, but able to counter every move, he held on to close the race out with a second-place finish.

“I really wish I could have closed the night out and won the Forni/Humphreys race, but I am still happy with how our car was and to still finish second,” Copeland added.

The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank NOS Energy Drink, Lund Construction, Anrak, Sam Rhodes, MatriScope, Econo Lube-n-Tune, Alturas Tires, Swartz Diesel, Kings Meats, American Paving Systems, PT Shocks, and RJM Builders and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.
