Colby Copeland Charges to Fourth Place Finish in Petaluma, CA
PETERSEN MEDIA- Getting in one final night of action before heading to this week’s Super Dirt Cup, Colby Copeland and C&M Motorsports rallied from a slow start at Petaluma Speedway and charged to a fourth-place finish in the feature event.
“It started out like it might be a pretty frustrating night on Saturday night, but my guys made some big changes that really helped us have a great run in the feature event,” Colby Copeland said.
Opting to head to Petaluma Speedway on Saturday night with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour, Copeland got the night underway as he timed the NOS Energy Drink/Lund Construction/Anrak backed No. 7C in ninth fastest in qualifying time trials.
Slipping back to a seventh-place finish in his heat race, the Roseville, CA driver found himself back in the 13th starting position on what turned into a hooked-up Petaluma Speedway surface once the sun started to set.
As the race came to life, Copeland wasted no time moving forward as he worked into sixth on the second lap, though slipped back to seventh on the 4th lap.
Continuing to fly around the famed black gumbo surface, Copeland worked into fifth on the seventh lap and settled in for the next 10 laps.
On the 17th lap, Copeland worked into fourth as he chased after Jake Haulot and Jake Andreotti who ran ahead of him. With the top four all going roughly the same speed, Copeland was unable to sneak on to the podium as he closed the night out with a hard charge to fourth.
“Thanks to Cody and Bobby for continuing to work hard,” Copeland said. “Really looking forward to getting up to Washington this week with the entire C&M Motorsports team for the Super Dirt Cup.”
