Dakota Albright 4th at Albright Memorial
PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning to Merced Speedway to race in honor of his late father, Wayne, Dakota Albright picked up a fourth-place finish during the Wayne Albright Memorial.
“This is obviously a race that means the world to me, and it is one that I want to win very badly each year,” Albright said. “We had a really good car, but with the way the track was in the feature I just couldn’t get going to battle up front.”
Hitting the high banked ¼ mile in the first qualifying group, Albright got off to a solid start as he timed his Thompson’s Family of Dealerships/Matos Accountancy/Greenwood Machine and Fab backed No. 35jr in ninth quickest overall.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, the Waterford, CA driver got a great jump when the green flag flew and showed he may be a problem for the field in the feature event.
Grabbing the lead, Albright raced his way to the win which then put him in the second row of the Wayne Albright Memorial feature event, which he looked to defend his 2024 title.
When the feature came to life, Albright quickly took the third spot as he began chasing after the lead duo as they ripped around the extremely slick bullring.
Slipping back to fourth on the eighth lap, Albright started to get too free and searched around to find grip as he slipped back to fifth. Running in fifth as the track started to take rubber Albright settled in line.
Keeping his tires under him and in the rubber, he was able to make a move on the last lap to net a fourth place finish.
“I thought the track would take rubber a little earlier in the feature so we just got too free as it cleaned off,” Albright said. “Just missed it, but happy to get another top-five.”
Dakota Albright would like to thank Thompson’s Family of Dealerships, Matos Accountancy, Greenwood Machine and Fabrication, 530 Wraps, Oval Chassis Research, Parker Performance and Fabrication, Romey’s Window Cleaning, Nurcher Milk, Angels Heavy Haul, West Steel and Plastics, Calhot Powder Coating, Sala Racing, Petersen Media, and Simpson Race Products for their support in 2025.
ON TAP: Albright will have a few weekends off before returning to Placerville Speedway for the Hangtown 100 in November.

PETERSEN MEDIA- Since identifying some engine issues back in early June, Dakota Albright has been red hot his last three races as he again raced to victory lane on Saturday night at Merced Speedway, marking his second win during that stretch and his third consecutive top-two result.
“After feeling just a little off at Placerville Speedway last week, I did some homework during the week to change a few things and we came out of the trailer really fast, and stayed fast all night long,” Dakota Albright said.
Earning fast time honors in qualifications aboard his Thompson’s Family of Dealerships/Johnson and Matos CPA’s/Greenwood Machine and Fab backed No. 35jr, Albright picked up a second-place finish in his heat race.
Moving on to the feature event, the Waterford, CA driver lined up in the third row for the 25-lap feature event on the racy Merced Speedway surface. When the race came to life the field stayed in a tight pack as Albright jumped into third on the second lap.
Amidst the tight knit racing, Albright was back in fourth on the fourth lap before a red on the sixth lap brought the field to a stop. Getting some signals from his crew during the stoppage, Albright moved to the middle of the track on the restart and started picking cars off.
Getting into third when the action resumed, Albright moved to second on the ninth lap and then raced into the lead at the race’s halfway point on lap 12. Out in front, Albright continued to set a strong pace as he broke away from the field and went on to score his second win of the season.
“Thanks to my guys for their hard work, Saturday night was truly a team win,” Albright said. “We had a great car all night long, and I am looking forward to a few weeks off before we get back to Placerville Speedway. Also, a big thank you to all of the great partners of our team for allowing us to do this week in and week out.”
