Dakota Albright Powers to Second Win of Season at Wayne Albright Memorial
PETERSEN MEDIA- There is undoubtedly no race on the schedule that means more to Dakota Albright than the Wayne Albright Memorial. During Saturday’s 12th installment of the race that honors his late father, Albright powered his way to the win, marking his third career Albright Memorial triumph.
“To win the race that honors my dad is always so special,” Dakota Albright said. “My family and I work so hard to make it a very special event, and thanks to some amazing friends, family, and businesses we have really grown a great group of event partners.”
Fresh off of a win one week ago in Chico, CA, Albright again came out firing as he kicked the night off with quick time honors aboard his Thompson’s Family of Dealerships/Matos Accountancy/Greenwood Machine and Fab backed No. 35JR.
Lining up sixth in his heat, a bit of chaos saw Albright endure damage to his left front bead lock and his tire ultimately went flat under the caution period that ensued. Restarting from fourth with a flat left front, the Waterford, CA driver was able to build his momentum up and power his way to a second-place finish.
Moving into the feature event, the inversion was a six which put Albright on the outside of third row to start the 35-lapper. When the race went green, Albright was patient in the early goings and then made the decision to move to the top of the speedway.
Things fell Albright’s way as he quickly worked his way into third by the race’s fifth lap and then made a move on Greg Dennett on the seventh lap to take over the second position.
Continuing to get better with each passing lap, Albright powered into the race’s top spot on the 10th lap, but he was far from in the clear. Battling hard with Hunter Kinney, the duo continued to wage war on each other until a late race yellow paused the action.
The final restart of the night proved to be exciting as Albright dipped low to prevent a slide job attempt, but Kinney was able to run the top and drive around Albright on the exit of two.
As they raced side by side into three and four, the duo banged wheels and Albright was able to retain the lead and race his way to the win.
“It was just a really fun race, and I am glad we came out on top,” he added. “Really thankful to my team for their hard work, and really thankful to all the great people that helped us make this race great again.”
Dakota Albright would like to thank Thompson’s Family of Dealerships, Matos Accountancy, Greenwood Machine and Fabrication, 530 Wraps, Oval Chassis Research, Parker Performance and Fabrication, Romey’s Window Cleaning, Nutcher Milk, Angels Heavy Haul, West Steel and Plastics, Calhot Powder Coating, Sala Racing, Petersen Media, and Simpson Race Products for their support in 2025.
