PETERSEN MEDIA: Continuing to figure out Skagit Speedway, Bubba DeCaires had his best run of the season to date as he tallied a fifth-place finish during Saturday night’s non-stop feature event.

“Qualifying had been a bit of a thorn in our side in the first two races of the season, so we tried a couple of different things on Saturday and it made a world of difference for us,” DeCaires said.

Timing his Morrison Concrete/Max Sells powered by Red Leaf Realty/High Sierra Industries backed No. 94 entry in fourth fastest in time trials, the Elk Grove, CA driver lined up on the pole of his heat race.

When heat race competition went green, DeCaires took a liking to the bottom groove and executed perfectly around the bottom of the speedway. Pocketing the win, he moved into the feature event where he took the green from the outside of the second row.

Continuing to make adjustments to his entry before the feature, DeCaires was happy with the progress and how his car felt as the feature event came to life. Settling into fourth when the race went green, DeCaires closed in on second and third as the leaders got into traffic.

Amidst a non-stop affair, DeCaires would have a slight misstep in traffic that cost him a position as he slipped back to fifth, which is where he ultimately went on to finish.

“We had a good opportunity to try a few things all night, and I was really happy with what we hit on,” DeCaires added. “It was really our first complete night of the season, and definitely a night we can build off of.”
