DeCaires Hard Charges to Skagit Speedway Top-10
PETERSEN MEDIA: Saturday night at Skagit Speedway, Bubba DeCaires bounced back from a rough start to his night, as he charged from his 22nd starting position and finished 10th in the feature event.
“Qualifying is definitely hindering us right now,” Bubba DeCaires said. “My laps feel good, but our times haven’t been, and it has left all of us scratching our heads, but we have been able to race well so we’re hoping we can get our qualifying dialed in.”
After timing the Morrison Concrete/Max Sells powered by Red Leaf Realty/High Sierra Industries backed No. 94 in 20thfastest, DeCaires turned his attention to heat race action.
As fate would have it, a failed fuel line knocked the Elk Grove, CA driver out of heat race action, and he found himself in the seventh starting position in the night’s ‘B’ Main as he searched for a transfer berth into the feature event.
From the inside of the fourth row, DeCaires was very maneuverable as he sliced and diced his way forward. Racing to a fourth-place finish, DeCaires punched his ticket into the feature event where he lined up back in the 22nd starting position.
When the race went green, DeCaires slowly started his charge towards the Top-10 as he jumped into 18th before using a lap 7 restart to race into 15th.
Working into 13th on the 10th lap, DeCaires continued to make up ground in turns one and two as he worked on sticking the bottom in turns three and four. At the race’s halfway point, DeCaires took over 12th and then raced into 11th just two laps later.
Racing into the Top-10 on the 21st lap, DeCaires hooked up in a very entertaining battle between 9th and 11th for the final nine laps of the race. When the checkered flew, he capped his charge off with a 10th place result.
“It was a fun race once we got going,” DeCaires said. “We were really good in turns one and two, and I could go wherever the guy in front of me didn’t go and make speed. Turns three and four were tricky, and I still need to figure out how to get better on exit. Overall, really happy with how we are racing, and hoping that we can figure out and fine tune the couple things that are hindering us.”
DeCaires would like to thank Morrison Concrete, Max Sells powered by Red Leaf Realty, High Sierra Industries, JLC Performance, Tiner Hirst Enterprise, Wion’s Body Shop, and QuickCar Racing Products for their support.
BY THE NUMBERS: Races-3, Wins-0, Top 5’s-0, Top 10’s-2
