James McFadden Caps Swing With Tarlton Motorsports by Sweeping Louie Vermeil Classic

PETERSEN MEDIA- This past weekend saw James McFadden bring his stint in the USA with Tarlton Motorsports to an end in fitting fashion as he swept the Louie Vermeil Classic at the famed Calistoga Speedway, which was in action for the first time since 2019.

“It was a great trip with Tarlton Motorsports and I am extremely thankful that Tom and Tommy Tarlton had me out,” James McFadden said. “Drew Warner and the Tarlton Motorsports guys were a blast to work with and I am extremely pleased with how the trip went and to close it out by winning two races at Calistoga Speedway is really special.”

Checking in at the famed ½ mile facility nestled in the heart of California’s Napa Valley, McFadden flexed his muscle early in the weekend as he earned fast time honors with TRD power under the hood of the Tarlton and Son Inc./American Rock and Rent/Executive Auto Sales backed No. 21.

With the revival of the track taking some growing pains during Saturday’s program track officials opted to scrap NARC heat races and an inversion pill was pulled putting the Alice Springs, NT driver on the pole of the 25-lap feature event.

As the race came to life, McFadden was hard on the throttle and quickly jumped out to the race lead. Setting a nice pace out front, McFadden looked very strong though did feel pressure from Spencer Bayston.

With Bayston actually able to get by McFadden at the race’s halfway point, the yellow flew and put McFadden back out front. Nailing the restart, McFadden as able to pull away and score his first ever win at Calistoga Speedway and in doing so, became the first Australian Driver to win at the hallowed grounds in exactly 50 years to the day.

Sunday night the action returned, and McFadden again got off to a quick start as he timed in second fastest in qualifying time trials.

Able to get a heat race in on this night, McFadden finished third and again found himself on the front row for the 25-lap feature event.

Getting a great jump as the feature event came to life, McFadden again asserted himself as the driver to beat. Only slowed by a couple of cautions, McFadden continued to set a torrid pace.

Things did get tricky for the Australian though, as the white flag flew he felt something give way in the front end of his entry. As he ran into turn three things worsened, however he was able to keep his entry pointed the right direction. Despite second running Dominic Gorden closing on him, McFadden was able to will his car to the checkered flag and cap off the weekend sweep.

“I felt a bit of a vibration as we got off turn two, and getting into three I felt the arm give-way,” McFadden explained. “Luckily, I was able to get it up on the right-rear and get the thing across the finish line and give these guys another win. Again, I am extremely thankful for the opportunity to run over here with the Tarlton team the last few months, and can’t wait to do it again.”

Tarlton Motorsports would like to thank Tarlton and Son Inc., American Rock and Rent, Executive Auto Sales, Durst, Tarlton Estate and Asset Management, Bandy and Associates, FK Shocks, FK Rod Ends, Willwood Brakes, Vortex Wings, and High Performance Lubricants for their support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races: 32, Wins: 7, Top 5’s: 17, Top 10’s: 21.
