“Racing with Todd and Leroy has been such a fun experience and I am happy to get a good finish for the team,” said Jodie Robinson. “It is a bit of a bittersweet moment to see my brother step away, but his support as I find my place in racing again is priceless.”
Friday night, Robinson kicked her weekend off in Chico, CA as her and Weiher Racing took to the Silver Dollar Speedway. With 46 cars in the pit area, Robinson timed the Mako Farms/LP Holdings/RPI backed No. 14W in sixth quickest in qualifying time trials.
Lining up in the second row of her heat race, Robinson finished fourth which locked her into the scheduled 30-lap feature as she took the green flag from the 13th starting position.
A wild start to the feature event saw the first four laps mired by yellow and red flags. Able to keep her nose clean and out of the fray, Robinson went to work as the race got into green flag action.
With a couple more stoppages hindering the flow of the race, it caused officials to ultimately shave off five laps as it was shorted to a 25-lap affair. Running well and battling for a Top-10, Robinson brought her Friday night to a close with a 12thplace finish.
Making the trip to Placerville Speedway on Saturday night, Robinson made her first start at the track she was a full timer at just a couple of seasons back.
32 cars checked into the pit area on this night, and Robinson got off to another good start as she timed in fourth fastest in her qualifying flight.
Lining up on the pole of her heat race, the Roseville, CA driver took full advantage of the prime starting position as she jumped to the lead and never looked back. Racing to the win, Robinson not only locked into the 25-lap feature event, she garnered a spot in the redraw where the four pill put her in the second row of the starting lineup.
When the green lights flashed on, Robinson got a great start as she jumped around Isaiah Vasquez and took over the second position as she chased after early leader, Andy Forsberg.
An early restart saw her slip back to third, but she engaged in a battle for the runner up position on the ninth lap as she swapped the swap numerous times over the next four circuits.
Settling back into third, a mid-race restart saw her get shuffled back to fifth as she battled with Shane Hopkins and Jake Morgan. Racing hard in the final laps to get a couple spots forward, Robinson capped her weekend off with a fifth place finish.
“Our performance showcased really good car speed on Friday night in Chico, and that led us to a Top-Five finish in Placerville, CA on Saturday night,” Robinson added. “To get back in the Top-5 so early in the season fees like a win, and I am so grateful for the faith that Todd and his team have in me despite being out of the seat the previous year. I am so happy to be back racing and it brings me so much joy and so many smiles.”
