Joel Myers Jr Set for Hockett/McMillin Memorial
PETERSEN MEDIA: A tough couple of weeks for Joel Myers Jr and Hayward Motorsports haven’t deterred the team as they have already began preparing for this weekend’s Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial in Wheatland, MO.
“It has been a tough couple of weeks for us unfortunately,” Joel Myers Jr said. “We broke a motor two weeks ago running fifth at Cedar Lake, then this past weekend we had a steering box go bad on Friday night, and then on Saturday we just struggled. Really looking forward to this weekend and getting to Lucas Oil Speedway.”
Spending this past weekend in Ohio competing with the All Star Circuit of Champions, Myers Jr got the weekend kicked off by timing the Velocity Engineering/IPC/Dirt Dudes Excavating backed No. 19 entry timed in eighth fastest in his qualifying flight.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, the Sebastopol, CA driver finished third which put him in the 14th starting position for the feature event on a very slick Fremont Speedway surface.
Getting a good start when the race went green, Myers Jr jumped into 10th before he moved into ninth on the 3rd lap. Continuing to battled inside the Top-10 as he worked around the slick surface, issues arose on his Hayward Motorsports entry on the 30th circuit as his steering box failed and brought his night to an end.
Able to make repairs for Saturday’s event, Myers Jr and team were back at Fremont for the Jim Ford Memorial finale, as he kicked the night off by timing in sixth quickest in time trials.
Picking up another third-place finish in heat race competition, Myers Jr locked into the feature event as he took the green flag from the 12th starting position.
On another extremely slick racing surface, Meyers was just a little off as he never really was able to get going through the middle of the track like much of the field. Getting as high as 11th at the halfway point of the race, Myers slowly slipped back and capped his weekend off with a 15th place finish.
“It’s a tricky place and when it gets that slick it gets even more technical and we just missed it for the feature,” Myers Jr said. “Thanks to everyone who continues to support our team.”

PETERSEN MEDIA: With Kubota High Limit Racing on the West Coast for three weeks, Hayward Motorsports and Joel Myers Racing teamed up for the swing, and Saturday night Myers Jr rallied from an early incident in the feature to finish 19th with a damaged front end at Placerville Speedway.
“It is always good to get home and race in front of family and friends,’ Joel Myers Jr said. “I am thankful that my Hayward Motorsports team wanted to play a role with this swing, and I am hoping we can be a little better in Chico and in Oregon and Washington.”
With 40 cars on hand, Myers Jr timed his Hi Plains Building Division/Velocity Engineering/Dirt Dudes Excavating backed No. 19JR in sixth quickest in his qualifying flight, which put him on the front row of his heat race.
Lining up alongside Corey Day for heat race action with a trip to the Dash on the line, Myers Jr battled hard with Friday night’s feature event winner before settling into second.
Keeping a firm grasp on second, Myers Jr’s runner up finish put him in the 12th starting spot for the 35-lap feature event.
Jumping into 11th when the race went green, lap three proved to be costly for Myers Jr as cars got out shape which caused his to half spin and then endure contact to his front end which left him stalled out in the middle of turns three and four.
Making a trip to the work area, Myers Jr’s team made a quick repair and sent him back down the ramp to restart the race as he tagged the rear of the field in 25th.
With his front end not completely right, Myers Jr fought his car as he slowly worked his way forward looking to make up all of his lost track position.
Unable to mount a serious charge from the tail end of the field, Myers Jr took what we could get as he raced back to 19thplace finish when the checkered flag was displayed to the field.
“We had good speed all night, but just got put in a bad spot in the feature and dictated how we finished,” Myers Jr said. “Thanks to everyone who helped us out in the pits all night, and thanks to all of the great people who support us.”
