Landon Brooks and Hamilton Racing Hard Charge with NARC
PETERSEN MEDIA: Despite a sluggish start to the night on Saturday in Tulare, CA, Landon Brooks and the Hamilton Racing team kept their nose to the grindstone and came to life when it mattered most as Brooks charged from 20th to 6thin the feature event.
“Our night started off decent in qualifying, but we struggled in our heat race, and I made some bad decisions,” Landon Brooks said.
With 29 cars checked into Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA, the Rio Oso, CA driver timed the Lippert Construction/Tiner Hirst Enterprise/Mozingo Construction backed No. 21L mount in 14th fastest.
Lining up in the third row of his heat race, Brooks slipped back out of a transfer as he worked around the 1/3 mile oval. Battling with Tanner Carrick, Brooks’ seventh place finish put him in the night’s ‘B’ Main with one final opportunity to lock into the feature event.
Starting on the front row of the semi, Brooks ran a very solid 12-lap race as he held the second position and punched his ticket into the night’s 30-lapper.
Taking the green flag from the 20th starting position, a very racy Thunderbowl allowed Brooks to make quite the charge forward. Using a restart on lap three to gain a ton of ground, Brooks jumped up to 13th before three and four wide racing around the slick surface, saw him move into 10th on the fourth lap.
Racing into eighth on the eighth lap, Brooks continued to surge forward as he was into seventh a lap later. Moving into sixth on the 15th lap, Brooks got into a very spirited battle with Shane Golobic for fifth as the duo spent the final half of the race going back and forth as they battled for the final top-five position.
When the checkered flag flew, Brooks capped a very strong run in the ‘A’ off with a hard fought sixth place finish.
“I really have to give the Hamilton Racing team a ton of credit, because I felt so comfortable in the feature event,” Brooks added. “I could go wherever I needed, and if things played out a little different, I honestly believe we could have ended up on the podium. We will take the really good run in the ‘A’, and get ready for Placerville this Saturday.”
