Landon Brooks Charges to 10th at Super Dirt Cup
PETERSEN MEDIA: A grueling 10 days for Hamilton Racing led them to Skagit Speedway over the weekend for the Jim Raper Memorial Super Dirt Cup. When the dust settled on the famed event on Saturday night, Landon Brooks capped off a great run to 10th after taking the green flag from 19th.
“I continued to not qualify well during the Super Dirt Cup and it really put us in a tough spot all week,” Landon Brooks said. “Luckily, my guys continued to get our car better each time we hit the track to race and it gave us a fighting chance to race into the Saturday night feature and we were able to do just that and have good run from 19th.”
Timing in 15th and 18th during the Thursday and Friday night prelims, Brooks finished 19th in the Thursday night ‘A’, then missed the Friday night ‘A’.
Sitting 23rd in Super Dirt Cup points heading into Saturday night’s finale, Brooks lined up fifth in his qualifier with four transfer berths into the feature event up for grabs.
As his qualifier came to life, Brooks was able to nail his start as he powered into the fourth and final transfer spot aboard the Lippert Construction/Tiner Hirst Enterprise/Mozingo Construction backed No. 21L entry. Holding the position, Brooks was secure into the Super Dirt Cup feature where he lined up in the 19th starting position.
During an opening 12 lap green flag run to start the race, Brooks was able to make quite a few moves as he ran in 13thwhen the red flag flew. With track officials opting to open the red up to crews to make adjustments and add fuel, the Hamilton Racing crew went to work to see if they could get their car even better, and Brooks was able to continue to work his way forward when the race resumed.
Working his way into 12th on the 15th lap, Brooks was up into 11th when the cross flags were displayed at the halfway point. On the 26th lap, Brooks took over the 10th position as he began to chase after Justin Sanders who ran just ahead of him.
For the final 13 laps of the race, Brooks looked for a way to move forward, but as the checkered flag flew, he capped the event off with a 10th place finish.
“I am just really thankful to have such a solid team behind me,” Brooks said. “Once we got into the Saturday night feature and got racing, our car was awesome and I am glad I was able to reward them all with a good run.”
