Landon Brooks Hard Charges in Chico, CA
PETERSEN MEDIA: Spending the weekend in Chico, CA, Landon Brooks and the Hamilton Racing team put together hard charges in the feature event both Friday and Saturday night as he scored two Top-10’s.
“Qualifying really hindered us both nights, but we raced really well, luckily,” Landon Brooks said. “We were able to pass a lot of cars which was nice, and ended up with a couple of Top-10’s.”
The weekend kicked off at Silver Dollar Speedway on Friday night for the ‘Champion’s Classic’, and Brooks timed the Lippert Construction/Tiner Hirst Ent./Mozingo Construction backed No. 21L in 17th fastest in time trials.
Finishing sixth in his heat race, the Rio Oso, CA driver lined up 17th on the starting grid for the 30-lap feature event. With the opening laps being slowed by a pair of red flags and a yellow flag, Brooks was able to take advantage as he was in 11th on the first lap, and up into seventh on the second lap.
Jumping into sixth once the race got into a bit of a rhythm, Brooks went to work on the bottom groove of the speedway as pre-race track prep made the low side the preferred groove.
Continuing to hold down the sixth spot, Brooks moved into fifth on the 27th lap but his momentum pushed him up the track and dropped him back into sixth. Clicking off the final few laps, Brooks closed the night out with a sixth-place finish.
Back in action on Saturday night for the Dave Bradway Jr Memorial, Brooks found himself 19th on the speed chart after time trials which put him in the fifth starting position for his heat race.
Finishing fifth in his heat despite enduring heavy contact on the race’s final lap, Brooks was locked into the 40-lap Dave Bradway Jr Memorial feature event where he took the green flag from the 19th starting position.
As the feature came to life Brooks was able to use a lap 5 restart to power his way into 13th as he raced around the ¼ mile bullring. Getting into 12th on the 16th lap, the action started to get wild as the race hit the halfway point.
Able to use a lap 22 restart to blast into the Top-10, Brooks to over seventh but in close quarters racing was back in 9th on the 30th lap.
Looking to pick up the lost positions on the 31st lap, Brooks entered high in turns three and four but his momentum carried him off the racing surface and he drew a caution.
With the way the race had been going, he restarted from the 12th position and worked his back up to a 10th place finish when the wild 40-lapper came to a close.
“I still need to clean up a few things on my end and I think that will position us better,” Brooks said. “Time trials are so crucial here so, I am really thankful for all of my guys for giving me a car that raced really well despite getting off to tough starts both nights.”
