Late Race Incident Ends Copeland’s Top-10 Bid at Placerville Speedway

PETERSEN MEDIA- Traveling to Placerville Speedway on Saturday night with C&M Motorsports, Colby Copeland had a good night going during the SCCT opener until a late issue derailed his Top-10 run.

“I feel like we made a ton of gains earlier in the night, but I still need to get better late in the night,” Copeland said. “We put ourselves in a good position for the feature, but I just didn’t feel great and felt like we were a little off.”

With 41 cars checked into Placerville Speedway for the Sprint Car Challenge Tour’s season opener, Copeland timed the NOS Energy Drink/Lund Construction/Anrak backed No. 7c in fourth fastest in his qualifying flight.

Lining up on the pole of his heat race, Copeland was hard on the throttle when the green flag dropped as he powered out to the early lead. Keeping the field at bay for the eight lapper, Copeland collected the win and punched his ticket into the Dash as well as the feature event.

Finishing sixth in the Dash, Copeland was set to roll off from the outside of the third row for the 30-lap feature event. When the race came to life, Copeland slipped back to eighth where he spent the majority of the night.

Battling hard inside the Top-10, Copeland slipped back to ninth just past the race’s halfway point, and then with just 10 laps to go in the race he was collected by a spinning car just ahead of him.

With the contact, Copeland’s night came to an early end.

“It was just a disappointing and frustrating way for our night to end,” Copeland said. “Big thanks to Cody and Mandi for their continued support, and thanks to Cody and the guys for all of their hard work in the pit area all night.”

The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank NOS Energy Drink, Lund Construction, Anrak, Sam Rhodes, MatriScope, Econo Lube-n-Tune, Alturas Tires, Swartz Diesel, Adrian Blanco Jewelry, Kings Meats, American Paving Systems, PT Shocks, Creason Enterprises, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.

ON TAP: C&M Motorsports and Colby Copeland return to action on the 25th in Merced, CA.
