2021 Underway for Austin McCarl and Tarlton Motorsports

PETERSEN MEDIA- Over the weekend Austin McCarl acclimated with his new digs at Tarlton Motorsports. Though the results were not what McCarl and the team had in mind, McCarl was excited to get things started as the team is scheduled to return to action this weekend.

“We had a decent weekend for what was our first weekend racing together,” Austin McCarl said. “Friday night we didn’t get timed in well and it was pretty tough to pass all night. Saturday night we were good, I just could not seem to get going.”

Making his first ever visit to Kern County Raceway Park, McCarl would time the Tarlton, and Son, Inc./EZ Haul/Executive Auto Sales backed No. 21 machine in seventh fastest in his time trial group before finishing seventh in his heat race.

Forced into the Friday night ‘B’ Main, McCarl was in search of one of the two transfer positions that were up for grabs. With a strong car under him, the Altoona, IA driver was able to take the second and final transfer position and keep his night going as he would start shotgun on the field in the feature event.

From the tail end of the field, McCarl would get off to a nice start as he slowly worked his way forward. Picking up a few spots in the first couple of laps, McCarl would find himself up in the 17th spot after 10 markers.

On the 11th lap, a car could lose the handle in front of the Iowa native, and he would make contact with his right rear. Forced to the work area, a quick caution would leave McCarl and Tarlton Motorsports stuck in the work area as McCarl’s night came to a close.

Confident with the speed they had in the feature, McCarl and Tarlton Motorsports return to action on Saturday night where ‘The Big Unit’ would time in fourth fastest in his time trial group before finishing fourth in his heat race and transferring directly into the feature event.

Taking the green flag from the 15th starting position, McCarl would run in that position for much of the race. Racing in a gaggle of cars, McCarl would find himself up as high as the 12th spot at one point.

Bouncing between the 13th and 14th spots during the final stages of the race, McCarl capped his first weekend with Tarlton Motorsports off with a 14th place finish.

“Really cool to climb aboard the Tarlton Motorsports entry, and I have to thank Tom and Tommy Tarlton for believing in me,” McCarl added. “Paul Baines and Tyrone Tyra gave me a solid car all weekend long, and it really has me excited to get to Hanford for two nights this weekend, a place that I have been to before.”

Tarlton Motorsports would like to thank Tarlton and Son, Inc., EZ Haul, Executive Auto Sales, Pabco Gypsum, Bandy and Associates, All Star Performance, and BG Lubricants for their support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races: 2, Wins: 0, Top 5’s: 0, Top 10’s: 0.
