Allard Surges To Fourth at New Zealand Championship

PETERSEN MEDIA- Jonathan Allard returned to racing action in New Zealand last weekend after a very lengthy break in the schedule, as he put on a fantastic charge to fourth in the New Zealand Sprint Car Championship.

Unfortunately for the Chico, CA driver, Allard was involved in a pair of wrecks during his two heat races, and heading into the feature event, he would line the Porter Group/Hydraulink/Motul backed No. 0 machine up in the ninth row for the 25th lap finale.

An overcast day at the Robertson Holden Speedway in Palmerston North provided excellent track conditions, just what Allard would need to surge his way forward.

When the Championship feature came to life, Allard quickly got into a groove, as he picked up his competitors one by one, as he sliced his way through the field.

Quickly getting into the Top-10, the 2014 Gold Cup Champion continued to thrill the crowd as he worked toward the top five, and lead pack as the race drew to a close.

With just two laps to go in the feature event, Allard found himself in the fifth spot, as the yellow would waive with the fourth place car coming to a stop.

Restarting the race in that fourth position, Allard would try several challenges on the lead trio of Jamie Duff, Ricky Logan, and Daniel Eggleton, but slower traffic hampered his efforts, and he would settle for a fourth place finish.

“We had terrible luck in our heat races, and that really put us behind for the feature,” Allard said. “My guys worked their tails off all night long, and we really had a good car in the feature. It was not the finish we were hoping for, but it was a great effort, and I sure hope that made all of our great sponsors proud.”

Allard would like to thank Porter Group, Hydraulink, Motul, New Zealand Ceiling and Drywall Supplies, Exide, and BDR Max for their support.

2015 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-3, Wins-1, Top 5’s-3, Top 10’s-3.

ON TAP: Allard will be in action later tonight at the Springs Speedway as he will contest the North Island Sprint Car Championship.
