PETERSEN MEDIA- Saturday night at Placerville Speedway, Andy Forsberg and the F&F Racing team were able to lead the 25-lap finish from start to finish and pick up the feature event win. With the win, the team was able to capture their fourth Placerville Speedway track championship together, giving Forsberg six total in his career at the track and also earning him his 20th overall Sprint Car championship.
“It was a great night and really a great weekend with us picking up the Silver Dollar Speedway as well on Friday night in my family car,” Andy Forsberg said. “The way the track was you had to have your elbows up and we were able to get above the cushion and times and get it done.”
Timing the Econo Lube-n-Tune and Brakes/Geico Local Office/PitStopUSA backed No. x1 machine in seventh quickest, the Auburn, CA driver would race his way to a heat race win and put himself in the nightly redraw.
Sending Jimmy Wall to the front stretch to make his selection, Wall would stay hot as the one pill would end up in his hand and Forsberg would find himself on the pole of the 25-lap feature event.
With track work going on prior to the feature event, Forsberg set out with the game plan of running under a low cushion in turns one and two. When the race came to life, Forsberg improvised and put all four wheels above the cushion and was able to make it work.
With cautions slowing the pace of the feature, Forsberg would nearly see his night end on the 13th lap as a car would get over right in front of him. Doing all he could to miss the action, Forsberg would endure some top wing damage but was able to keep going and keep the race lead.
In the closing laps of the feature event, Forsberg would feel pressure from Justyn Cox who looked to steal the win late, but on this night, Forsberg would return to victory lane and claim his sixth overall Placerville Speedway Track Title.
“Man, to win 20 championships in my career is crazy,” Forsberg added. “I have been lucky to win quite a few of them with the F&F Racing team, and to get the band back together this year and do it again is pretty cool. Thank you to all the guys who support us and help this car go round and round.”
