PETERSEN MEDIA- Making some changes to their engine program following the Silver Cup, Andy Forsberg and F&F Racing checked in at Marysville Raceway for the track’s regular season opener and came away with their first win of the season.
“We really had hoped to get down to Hanford over the weekend, but the F&F guys wanted to tweak some stuff on our engine package, and we were unable to make the trip, so we stuck close to home,” Forsberg said. “Things seemed to go pretty well for us, and hopefully the weather holds, and we can open the season up at Placerville this weekend.”
With 18 cars checked in on a chilly night in Marysville, CA, Forsberg got the night opened up by timing the C&H Motor Parts/Bushey Financial Services/PitStopUSA backed machine in second fastest in qualifications.
Lining up in the second row of his heat race, ‘Mr. Excitement’ was able to make some swift moves and take the race lead. Picking up the win, Forsberg would move into the redraw where the four pill would place him in the second row of the feature event.
When the feature event went green, Forsberg was able to jump into the third position before moving into second on the fourth lap.
Chasing after leader, Jake Haulot, Forsberg would have to be patient as Haulot was very strong on this night. Battling with third running Sean Becker at times, Forsberg would finally capitalize in traffic on the 17th lap to take the lead, and subsequently bring Becker along with him.
With Forsberg out front, his veteran counterpart Becker would continue to apply pressure as the duo waged war on each other for the final nine laps.
Exchanging the top spot on a few occasions, the 2020 Marysville Raceway Champion would not be denied on this night, as he was able to fend Becker off and pick up his first win of the season.
“The track was tricky, and Jake Haulot was really good early,” Forsberg said. “We finally got out front late and had our hands full with ‘The Shark’, but we were able to fend him off and grab the win.”
