PETERSEN MEDIA: Saturday night at Placerville Speedway, Andy Gregg picked up a 16th place finish in the Mark Forni Classic feature event on a night where 42 cars packed the pit area.

“It was a pretty stout field on Saturday night, and just making the feature was a feat in itself,” Andy Gregg said. “Like I said after our last race, I am pleased with how we continue to progress, and hopefully we can run well again this weekend in what should be two more really tough shows.”

Kicking things off at the ¼ mile bullring nestled in El Dorado County, Gregg timed the GUTS/Angius and Terry LLP/Capitol Ace Hardware backed No. 16 machine in 11th fastest in qualifying time trials.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, the Diamond Springs, CA driver did a great job of hanging in a transfer position as his fourth place finish moved him into the 25-lap, $5000-to-win finale.

On the slicked off surface, Gregg would take the green flag from the 12th starting spot aboard the Ice House Resort/CTL Forest Management/ARP Enterprises backed No. 16.

Getting a good start in the feature event, Gregg would forge his way ahead as he moved into the 10th spot, and got into an exciting battle for the race’s first nine laps.

An early restart would see Gregg fall back to the 13th spot where he would run for a few laps as things got congested in the middle of the pack. Another restart would see Gregg fall back to 16th as drivers were bobbing and weaving searching for the best way around the speedway.

As the race came to a close, Gregg would battle for 15th in the closing laps following a lap 22 restart, but in the end he would come home with a 16th place finish.

“We were okay early, and able to move forward but our car kind of went away towards the end and we were kind of sluggish on restart,” Gregg noted. “All in all to get in this race and battle in front of a ton of sponsors that were in the stands was a good thing.”

Andy would like to thank GUTS, Angius and Terry LLP, Capitol ACE Hardware, Ice House Resort, CTL Forest Management, ARP Enterprises, Ervin Sales, Broadband Agreements, Russo Insurance, Kelly Moore Paints, Cal Pro Paint and Construction, Triple X, Wilwood, FK Shocks, FK Rod Ends, K&N,  King Racing Products, BR Motorsports, Amerikote, Pony Express Service, and MF Inc. for their support in 2017.

ON TAP: Gregg will return to action this Friday and Saturday night as he will race with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour at Placerville Speedway (Friday), and Stockton Dirt Track (Saturday).
