PETERSEN MEDIA: Taking part in Placerville Speedway’s 55th season opener on Saturday night, Andy Gregg would see a good start to his night turn sour, as he came up just short of transferring into the feature event.
“The driver made a big mistake in our heat race, and it really put us in a big hole the rest of the night,” Andy Gregg said. “Still, we had a lot of speed and I had a lot of fun being back at the track.”
With 46 cars in the pit area, Gregg would time the GUTS/LAL Motorsports/Crane Inspection Agency backed No. 16x in third fastest in his time trial group.
Needing to win the heat to earn a berth into the all-important Dash, Gregg would find himself out front early. Slipping back to second on the heat’s last lap, Gregg would get sideways as he pushed the limits in three and four and it would result in him spinning to a stop and being credited with a ninth place finish.
Forced into the night’s ‘C’ main, Gregg would continue to showcase a very strong Meyers and Son Drywall/Nail It Roofing/Sierra Ice backed entry as he picked up the win and continued his night on as he transferred into the ‘B’.
From the back of the ‘B’, Gregg would continue to make headway as he raced through the field, but unfortunately, he could get through the top-10 as fast as he needed to.
Finishing ninth, Gregg would bring his season opening race to a close with a ninth-place finish in the “B”.
“Overall it was a great night, and I really enjoyed working with my crew,” Gregg added. “It was great to have Bill McLaren and Dave Lucas back at the track with me along with Robert and Gage.”
