PETERSEN MEDIA: Saturday night in Marysville, CA, Lucas Ashe kicked his 2018 season off by putting together a very nice run that saw him advance from the 19th starting position to record an eighth place finish during the Sherm and Loree Toller Memorial.

“I think Saturday night went fairly well,” Lucas Ashe said. “We got better and better, and had a good amount of speed at the end of the night.”

Kicking the California racing season off on a frigid Saturday night in Marysville, CA, Ashe got off to a nice start as he timed the Jester Auto Museum and Event Center/SALCO Inc./Lucas Oil backed No. 33 machine in 13th quickest in time trials amongst the 27 cars checked in for the event.

Heat race action saw Ashe hold onto the fourth and final transfer position for much of the race until hard racing for the position resulted in contact coming to the checkered flag. With Ashe getting out of shape, the youngster did an excellent job of keeping his machine out of the wall as he slid across the finish line in the fifth spot.

Forced into the night’s ‘B’, Ashe would finish second in the race and punch his ticket into the 25-lap feature event where he would grid the field from the 19th starting position.

With the race getting off to a slow start with a myriad of early stoppages, Ashe was able to keep his nose clean despite being buried in the back of the pack. When some green flag laps were strung together, the Cottonwood, CA native was able to put his machine through it’s paces as he worked his way forward.

Taking advantage of a couple of late restarts, Ashe was able to work his way inside the Top-10 as he closed his first race of the new season out with an eighth place finish.

“I really have to thank Jim, Zack, and Shane for all of their hard work, and all of our partners for their support,” Ashe added. “I am really happy with how things went in our first night out, and I am looking forward to a full season of working with Jim Van Lare.”

Lucas Ashe Racing would like to thank Jester Auto Museum and Event Center, SALCO Inc., Lucas Oil, STL Tile, Crown Motors, Logo USA, Triple X Race Co., DMI Components, VSR, Factory QRC, Shaver Racing Engines, Rod End Supply, Fat Cat Propane, and Justeson Farms for their continued support.

2018 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts- 1, Wins-0, Top-5’s-0, Top-10’s-1

ON TAP: Ashe is scheduled to return to action on Friday and Saturday night in Chico, CA for the Silver Cup.
