PETERSEN MEDIA: A busy night of Double Duty at Santa Maria Speedway on Saturday night saw Austin Liggett endure some more gremlin under the hood of his midget, but also saw him score his seventh win of the year as he topped the USAC West Coast 360 feature event.

“My dad and Scott really had both cars dialed in,” Liggett said. “I felt really good in both the sprint car and the midget, unfortunately we had more engine issues with the midget which was a little frustrating.”

In USAC West Coast 360 action, Liggett would time his machine in third quickest of the 19 cars checked in for the night of racing. Heat race action saw the Tracy, CA driver line up in the sixth starting position and proceed to put on a show.

Carving his way forward, Liggett would make a last corner move to net the win, and place him in the second row to start the feature event.

With a strong car underneath him, Liggett would quickly move forward as he jumped into the lead on the race’s seventh circuit. Out in front, Liggett would flex his muscle and simply pull away from the field in a big way.

Getting through traffic with no issues, Liggett would make quick work of the back of the field as he went on to win by over seven seconds and lap up to fifth place.

In USAC Western States Midget action, time trials would see him time in 10thquickest amongst the 20 cars entered in the event.

Still battling issues that hindered him in Merced, CA, Liggett would finish third in his heat race and line up in the fifth row of the feature event.

As they continued to address issues all night long, something will still hinder Liggett and company in the feature event as he wasn’t able to really get going and make a run. Doing what he could while lacking some power, Liggett would keep position inside the Top-10 as he closed the Midget feature out with an eighth place finish.

“The Sprint Car race was awesome, my guys really made my job easy and it was great to get another win,’ Liggett said. “Just want to thank My Mom and Dad, Britton, and Scott for all of their hard work on Saturday.”

Austin Liggett Racing would like to thank Excel Environmental Services, Liggett Trucking, Tool Technology, Hurst Fabrications, Maxwell Industries, Shine Photography, and Morris Motorsports for their support.

2019 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-22, Wins-7, Top 5’s-14, Top 10’s-17
