Austin Liggett Cashes in For USAC Western States Midget Win in Tulare, CA

PETERSEN MEDIA: Taking part in another double-duty night of action on Saturday night in Tulare, CA, Austin Liggett would have a much smoother night as he picked up a win in USAC Western States Midget action and landed on the podium with a third-place finish in USAC West Coast 360ci action.

“It was pretty awesome to get both cars on the podium after taking a big hit last week,” Austin Liggett said. “We have had cars good enough to win every night out this year, so it was great to finally breakthrough and pick up our first win of the year in the midget.”

Getting his night in the Midget underway by timing the Excel Environmental Services/Liggett Trucking/Tool Technology machine in third fastest in qualifying time trials, Liggett would power his way to a win in heat race action.

Lining up fifth in the 30-lap feature event, the Tracy, CA driver wasted no time forging his way to the front on the high-banked 1/3-mile oval. Racing his way into second, Liggett would soon begin to pressure race leader, Mitchell Moles for the top spot as the duo battled hard for the race lead.

Leading the ninth lap as they ran side-by-side, Liggett would sit in second when the caution flew on the 14th lap. The ensuing restart would see Moles lose the handle on his machine, and Liggett would take over as the race leader.

Out in front, Liggett was extremely strong as he worked around Thunderbowl Raceway. While he would feel some pressure late in the race, Liggett would not be denied as he picked up his first win of the season and extended his early point lead with the series.

Also, in action with the West Coast 360 series on Saturday night, Liggett would pick up a fourth-place finish in his heat race, before a sixth-place effort in the qualifier.

Using passing points on this night with a light car count, the Tracy, CA native would find himself in the seventh starting position for the 25-lap feature event.

With another strong car underneath him, Liggett was again able to slice and dice his way forward as he would quickly race his way into the Top-Three. Once in third, Liggett would begin to chase after 2nd running DJ Johnson, as they both gave their all to track down a very strong Brody Roa who was extremely fast out front.

When the race drew to a close, Liggett capped off his strong night in Tulare, CA with a third-place finish.

“After a lot of podium runs, it is very satisfying to get back into victory lane,” Austin Liggett said. “These Double-Duty nights are not easy, and my crew makes it look effortless. I really have to thank my Dad, Mom, Matt, Landon, and Angela for all of their hard work and support.”

Austin Liggett Racing would like to thank Excel Environmental Services, Liggett Trucking, Tool Technology, Hurst Fabrications, Maxwell Industries, Shine Photography, ZMAX Racing Oil, and Transport Products Unlimited for their support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races-8, Wins-1, Top 5’s-5, Top 10’s-5

ON TAP: With USAC idle until May 15th, Liggett is unsure if he will race before that at this time.
