PETERSEN MEDIA: After a couple of tough Sprint Car outings, Austin Liggett returned to midget action on Saturday night in Petaluma, CA where he would pick up a fourth place finish on the hooked up Petaluma Gumbo.

“Petaluma isn’t one of my greatest tracks, so to have really good speed, lead some laps, and come home in one piece feels pretty good,” Austin Liggett said. “We just got more tight as the feature event moved on and fell back to fourth after leading early.”

Timing the Excel Environmental Services/Liggett Trucking/Tool Technology backed No. 83 machine in fourth fastest in qualifying time trials, the Tracy, CA product turned Linden, CA resident went from fifth to third in heat race action.

Taking the green flag from the second row, Liggett was hard on the throttle and jumped out to the lead, as the field raced into turns one and two. Running the middle and bottom grooves, Liggett would look extremely strong out front, but would soon feel pressure from Maria Cofer.

Continuing to run his line, Cofer would make the top work and would drive by Liggett on the 10thlap though he wouldn’t let her get away. Chasing her back down as he was able to move around the Petaluma Speedway Liggett would make a big move to slide back to the top spot, but Cofer was able to answer and motor away.

As the track continued to ‘come back’ as the race went on, Liggett’s machine would continue to tighten up on him as he slipped back to third as Alex Shutte got by him.

Fending of Robert Dalby for the final spot on the podium, Liggett had to burp the throttle on the last lap as he approached a pair of battling slower cars and it would allow Dalby by as he came home with a fourth place finish.

“Big thanks to Scott for working hard for me all night and giving me a pretty good car,” Liggett added. “Also thanks to my parents, Landon, and Andrew for their help all night as well.”

Austin Liggett Racing would like to thank Excel Environmental Services, Liggett Trucking, Tool Technology, Hurst Fabrications, Maxwell Industries, Shine Photography, and Morris Motorsports for their support.
