PETERSEN MEDIA: After winning the last USAC West Coast 360 event earlier in June, Austin Liggett stayed hot when the series returned to action on Saturday night as he again found victory lane with the series.
“I had a really good car and was able to fend off a couple of challenges for the lead,” Austin Liggett said. “Huge thanks to my Mom and Dad for thrashing to get the car dialed; we were really good all night.”
Timing the Excel Environmental Services/Lucas Oil/Hurst Fabrications backed No. 83 machine in fifth fastest in qualifying time trials, the Tracy, CA driver would proceed to pocket a third place finish during heat race competition.
By way of his qualifying effort, and his heat race finish Liggett would find himself on the front row for the feature event as he was in search of his third triumph of the season.
When the racing action came to life, Liggett would find himself back in second as he kept the race leader in his sights. Running strong in the openings stanzas of the event, Liggett would make his move on the fifth circuit.
Snatching up the lead, Liggett would look very comfortable out front as he laid down some great laps on the tight confines of Ventura Raceway. Feeling pressure from Troy Rutherford, and Jake Swanson at times, Liggett was able to keep his competitors at bay.
Continuing to lead the way, Liggett would have to battle traffic late and it would allow Ryan Timmons to close in on him. Taking the white flag as the leader, Liggett would come under fire in the last corner, but he would hold off Ryan Timmons to score the win.
“It was a really fun weekend overall,” Liggett said. “To get another win is great. It’s a blast racing with my family and I have to thank them for everything they do for me.”
