(PETERSEN MEDIA- Merced, CA)- Fans were treated to a classic battle on Saturday night that was highlighted by Austin Liggett grabbing the USAC Western States Midget series event in what the division’s first ever appearance at Merced Speedway.
19 Midgets made the trip over and it was Austin Liggett grabbing the lead late and holding off Shane Golobic to score the win. Golobic would hang for second as Mitchell Moles, Cory Elliot and Ben Worth rounded at the Top-5.
IMCA Mod action saw DJ Shannon best the 18-car field on Saturday night. Chasing Shannon across the stripe was Paul Stone, Troy Foulger, Cody Burke, and Ryan Porter.
A hefty field of 20 Hobby Stocks was also in action Saturday night with Dexter Long grabbing top honors. Long would lead Shannon Nelson, Michael Shearer, Kevin Irwin, and Kevin Joaquin to the checkered flag.
Also in action Saturday night was 11 mini stocks. When the dust settled on their feature, Lucky Falkenberg, Chris Corder, Lee Ragsdale, Jennifer Rodgers, and Shayla Gould would make up the Top-Five.
This week is slated as Fan Appreciation Night at the Merced Speedway with BCRA Midget Lites, Mini Late Models, Valley Sportsman, and Hobby Stocks on the card.
Saturday night the pit gates will open at 2PM with the draw closing promptly at 5pm.
The main grandstands will open at 5pm Saturday with tickets available to adults for $10, Seniors and Military members with ID for $8, children 6-12 for just $5, and those fans 5 and under admitted for free.
