PETERSEN MEDIA: After numerous second place finishes at Petaluma Speedway over the years, Austin Liggett was able to break the streak on Saturday night as he topped the action with the USAC West Coast 360 Series and picked up his first career win at the Speedway, and his ninth of the season, as he claimed the Adobe Cup.
“It feel pretty good to finally grab a win at Petaluma Speedway,” Austin Liggett said. “Over the years, I think I have ran second there at least eight times, so to win this deal with a new car we put together is pretty cool.”
With 21 cars checked in for the non winged version of Petaluma Speedway’s Adobe Cup, Liggett would time the Excel Environmental Services/Liggett Trucking/Tool Technology backed No. 83 machine in fifth fastest in time trials.
Lining up in the third row of his heat race, the Tracy, CA native turned Linden, CA resident would continue to shake his CS9 machine out as he picked up a third place finish on the slick surface, and put himself on the front row of the 30-lap Adobe Cup feature event.
Getting the jump when the race went green, Liggett would quickly move to the bottom groove where there was a little moisture to grab on to. Working the bottom, Liggett showed some veteran savvy, as he was patient and methodically hitting his marks.
With Billy Aton and JJ Ringo breathing down his neck, Liggett would not be denied on this night as he would lead from the drop of the green to the drop of the checkered, and pocket his ninth feature event win of the season.
