PETERSEN MEDIA: With the impending Oval Nationals at Perris Auto Speedway looming near, Austin Ligget and team bolted their 410ci engine into the ALR No. 83 and headed south to get a tune up race in as Liggett would flex some muscle and finish seventh on Saturday night.
“Perris went really well in the scheme of things,” Austin Liggett said. “It was not a terrific night on paper, but we found the speed and comfort in our car that we had kind of lost so that is a huge win for us.”
With 23 cars in action at the Southern California speed plant, Liggett would open the night up by timing the Excel Environmental Services/Lucas Oil/Hurst Fabrications entry in 12th fastest in qualifying time trials.
Continuing to adapt to the 410ci engine after spending much of the year running with the USAC West Coast 360’s, Liggett would pick up a second place finish in his heat race after lining up in the second row, which would place him in the 12th starting position for the feature event.
Jumping into the Top-10 as things got underway, Liggett showed patience on the ½ mile speedway as his car seemingly got better as the fuel load burned off. Working his way forward, Liggett would soon find himself in a multi car battle as he vied for position inside the Top-5.
Continuing to work hard against the stars and cars of the USAC/CRA Series, the 2018 USAC West Coast 360 Champion would cap his night off with a seventh place finish.
“We seemed to get better as the race went on and I felt pretty good at the end of it,” Liggett noted. “I am excited to get back down here in a couple of weeks and take on the USAC National Series during the Oval Nationals.”
