PETERSEN MEDIA- Getting the call to pilot the famed Roth Motorsports No. 83jr in Hanford, CA for the Morrie Williams Tribute, Austin McCarl with pick up a trio of Top-10 finishes at Keller Auto Speedway.

“All in all, I would say Hanford, CA went pretty well,” Austin McCarl said. “Night one was a little tricky in a new car and on an extremely slick surface. We had really good speed, we just missed the set up in the feature event.”

Friday night saw the Altoona, IA driver make his debut with the Fresno, CA based team, and he would things kicked off by timing the Roth Enterprises/HR Livestock Transportation/Jason, Tara, and Cole Roth Cattle Co. backed No. 83jr in sixth quickest in time trials.

Racing his way to a heat race win on the slick surface, McCarl would earn a spot in the redraw where the two-pill put him on the front row of the feature event.

As the night went on the track would continue to slick off, and ultimately take on rubber in the feature event. When the race came to life, McCarl would find himself in third as he searched for grip on the slick surface.

Changing his line and getting into the rubber, McCarl would settle back into fifth. Continuing to hold down a spot inside the Top-5, McCarl would slip back to sixth with five to go where he would go on to finish.

Saturday night brough on a King of the West sanction, and a unique format that would see the field run two 20-lap feature events.

McCarl would get off to a great start as he earned quick time honors, raced to a heat race win, and won the Dash to put himself on the pole of the first 20-lap feature event.

Leading the first eight laps of the feature, a lap nine restart would see McCarl fall back to the fourth position. Trying to get back into rhythm, McCarl would slip back to eighth during the duration of the 20-lap affair and would find himself in the 12th starting position for the second 20-lap feature.

Making some adjustments during the intermission, McCarl would work his way forward in the second feature. Cracking the Top-10 by the sixth lap, McCarl would continue to race his way forward and take over the fifth position with just three laps left in the race.

Holding on to fifth, McCarl would cap his weekend in California off with a Top-5 during the second feature of the Morrie Williams Tribute.

“Night two started off great by going quick time, winning the heat and the dash,” McCarl added. “During both 20-lap feature, neither went the way that we would have liked, but it was great to get a Top-5 in the second feature. It was a great experience to race in California, and I am extremely thankful for the opportunity that Dennis and Teresa Roth, as well as Todd Ventura provided me. I am hopeful we can do it again in the future.”
