PETERSEN MEDIA: Justyn Cox endured a couple bad breaks during the 24th Annual Trophy Cup that ultimately kept him from competing during the Saturday night feature event.

“We felt pretty good about our chances of doing well heading into the weekend, but we just had some bad luck,” Justyn Cox said. “Thursday night went okay, but we weren’t able to race into the feature and Friday night we ended up hurting something in our engine and that put an end to our weekend.”

Thursday night would see Cox time the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Trex backed No. 31C machine in 23rd quickest in qualifying time trials as he would break a U-Joint just after taking the checkered flag.

Able to thrash in the pit area and make the change, Cox would return for his heat race where he would finish in the second position. With points dictating line ups, the Clarksburg, CA driver would be forced into the ‘B’ main where he lined up in the 10th starting position.

In the semi, Cox would battle with Tony Gualda and Kurt Nelson for position inside the Top-10, but wasn’t able to get up and battle for a transfer position as a ninth place finish would end his night.

Back in action on Friday night, Cox would get off to a better start as he timed the PM Truck Repair/Justice Brothers/K&N machine in 14th quickest in qualifying time trials.

Finishing second in his heat race to Sean Becker, Cox would again be forced into a ‘B’ Main, though he would line up on the front row of B #2 on this night. Cox’s B would be short lived however, as something would go south under the hood of his machine on the third lap and his night would come to an end.

Upon getting back to the pit area and going through the engine, the team decided the issue was too much and decided to call it a weekend.

“It was disappointing to end our Trophy Cup early, but we still have a few more races to run this year,” Cox said. “I have to thank my team for all of their hard work, and hopefully we can have a smooth night this weekend in Marysville, CA.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, LRB, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, EyeLusions, All American Powder Coating, Coos Bay Speedway, Swimming Pool Perfections, Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Moyle Race Engines, and Manzer Motorsports for their support in 2017!

2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-47, Wins-6, Top 5’s-19, Top 10’s-28

ON TAP: Cox will get back to racing this Saturday night as he will take part in the Spooktacular at Marysville Raceway.
