Ballou Back on Podium as He Makes Return to USAC

PETERSEN MEDIA: Getting back in his famed Ballou Motorsports No. 12 non winged sprint car for the first time since his devasting arm injury nearly one year ago, Robert Ballou shook off the rust quick and highlighted his weekend with a third-place finish on Sunday night in Pevely, MO.

“It came down to the last minute to get our car ready to go, but we made it happen and really got better each time we hit the track all weekend,” Ballou said. “Saturday we were good early in the night and faded towards the end of the night, and Sunday we were pretty behind early in the night and made the right calls and came away with a really good result.”

Saturday night in Burlington, IA, the Rocklin, CA native made his return to USAC action as the stars and cars of the National series invaded 34-Raceway. Timing the Abreu Vineyards/Deaton’s Waterfront Service/Don Ott Racing engines backed entry in second fastest in his qualifying flight, ‘The Mad Man’ lived up to his nickname in his heat race.

Lining up sixth, Ballou flexed his muscle as he made some big moves and carved his way to the front. Picking up the win, Ballou moved into the feature event where he rolled off the starting grid from the third position.

Admittedly making a couple of wrong decisions on his car prior the feature, Ballou would lose a few spots and slip back through the Top-10. Bringing his first night back with USAC to a close, Ballou would keep his machine in the Top-10 as he finished seventh.

Traveling to Pevely, MO for a Sunday night showdown at I-55 Raceway, Ballou would get off to a bit of a slow start as he timed his entry in sixth fastest in his qualifying flight.

Picking up a third-place finish in his heat race, Ballou would transfer directly into the feature event where he rolled off the starting grid from the 11th spot. On a very slick I-55 Raceway surface, Ballou would come alive in the feature event.

With a very strong mount underneath him, Ballou sliced and diced his way through the field. When the action-packed feature event drew to a close, Ballou capped his weekend by claiming the final spot on the podium and finishing third.

“Thanks to everyone that backs us and helped get us to the track over the weekend,” Ballou said. “We made some pretty big gains on Sunday night, and it was me really excited for this weekend’s race at Tri-Sate Speedway.”

Robert Ballou would like to thank Abreu Vineyards, Deaton’s Waterfront Service, Rossie Feed and Grain, Berks Western Telecom, Inc., MPHG Promotion, Suburban Subaru, Jamie Davidson Scrap Metal, Twister-X, Hinchman Indy, Don Ott Racing Engines, Manvel Motorsports, Blakesley Auto, Olson Custom Design, Konnected Clothing, Hooker Harness, Indy Race Parts, Hoosier Tire, Schoenfeld Headers, ISC Racers Tape, Chalk Racing Products, Keizer Aluminum Wheels, Saldana Racing Products, Moose Blocks, Inc., JE Pistons, AO Designs, and Arai Helmets for their support.
