Becker Records 4th and 12th Place Finishes at Platinum Cup

PETERSEN MEDIA- Competing in the Platinum Cup 360 portion of the 67th Gold Cup with Vertullo Motorsports, Sean Becker would pick up a fourth-place finish during his preliminary night on Wednesday which locked him into Saturday’s feature where he finished 12th.

“After competing for a podium, the first night, we were confident we could improve on that during Saturday’s finale,” Sean Becker said. “Unfortunately, we just didn’t seem to have the speed to do that.”

Becker’s Gold Cup kicked off on Wednesday night where he timed the Starr Property Management/Morrison Concrete backed No. 83V mount in fourth fastest in his qualifying group.

Able to pick up a couple of positions in his heat race, ‘The Shark’ would finish second, and safely transfer into the 30-lap opening night feature event where he would look to tabulate enough points to lock into Saturday’s feature.

Taking the green flag from the ninth starting position, Becker would have his elbows up as he was able to race his way through the Top-10. With the race getting interrupted by numerous stoppages, Becker would take advantage of restarts as he raced into fourth and began battling with Joel Myers, Jr for the final spot on the podium.

Unable to get into third, Becker would cap the night off with a fourth-place finish and sat fifth in points with Thursday night’s field still to race.

Playing fan and driver coach on Thursday, Becker would find himself ninth in overall points, and with the Top-16 locking in, the Roseville, CA driver would have another night to watch as his starting position on Saturday was solidified.

Taking the green flag from ninth once Saturday’s feature went green, Becker was unable to put together a similar charge as he did on Wednesday night. Battling in the Top -10, ‘The Shark’ would lose a few positions at the end of the race as he capped his weekend off with a 12th place run.

“I really do appreciate my team and the hard work the put in over the last week,” Becker said. “We will go back to the drawing board for next time, but in the bigger picture we had a lot of fun together enjoying this great event.”
