PETERSEN MEDIA- In 2014, Ryan Bernal has brought life to Mike Phulps’ Phulps Motorsports dirt program by way of winning six races in 11 starts to date, and it all started as Phulps Motorsports’ first ever win on dirt.

“It has been a great start to our season, and I can’t thank this team enough,” Bernal said. “We had a rocky start to our relationship last year when we got together at season’s end, but it is pretty cool to be a part of what is happening right now.”

In 2001, Mike Phulps began to build his team as they focused on pavement racing, and instantly won a championship, which proved to be the paving ground as Phulps as a championship car owner.

Through the years Phulps Motorsports put top notch equipment on the track which continued to win championships on pavement, but in 2011 when they began supporting the USAC Western Classic 360 Series, dirt became part of the equation, and the team couldn’t seem to get over the hump.

Fast-forward to 2014, and Ryan Bernal’s knowledge, and skill, has put the team on the fast track to success, and in only their second start of the season back in April, Bernal gave the team their first win on dirt, and has gone one to win a total of 6 straight 360ci races.

“Our 360ci program is really strong right now, and we are doing some great things,” Bernal explained. “On the 410ci side, we are not bad by any means, and we are continuing to get better, and we have been in the hunt to pick up wins the last couple of weeks, but it just has eluded us.”

During this streak of six straight 360ci wins, Bernal has picked up wins at the Calistoga Speedway (4/6), Ocean Speedway (5/16), the Thunderbowl Speedway in Tulare, CA (5/17, 5/31, and 6/21) and at the Kings Speedway in Hanford, CA (6/7).

The night’s that Bernal and his Phulps Motorsports team were not victorious he finished third during the season opening event at the Calistoga Speedway after having to fight right-rear tire, 11th with the USAC/CRA Series at the Ocean Speedway after contact on the last lap dropped him back, 18th with the USAC/CRA Series at the Petaluma Speedway as again contact on the last lap going for the win left him limping across the line, 5th with the USAC/CRA Series at the Perris Auto Speedway, and most recently he had engine issues at the Santa Maria Speedway.

“It has been a fun ride up to now, and I am looking forward to seeing how the rest of this year plays out,” he added. “Again, I can’t thank everyone on this team enough for all of their hard work.”

Bernal and the Phulps Motorsports team would like to thank Advanced Racing Suspension, DMI, Keizer Wheels, Wilwood, King Racing Products, A.R.T. Chassis, S&S Automotive, TEL TAC, Permatex, Joe Hunt Magnetos, Hoosier Racing Tires, Core Power, Outlaw Graphics, Metal Works, and The National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum for their continued support.

2014 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-11, Wins-6, Top 5’s-8, Top 10’s-8
