PETERSEN MEDIA- Setting up for a busy three-race weekend, Ryan Bernal would get off to a great start on Friday night at the Ocean Speedway before mechanical issues would hinder him and his Mike Phulps Motorsports team on Saturday and Sunday night.

“We got off to a rough start on Friday night, but we rebounded well, and Saturday night got off to a nice start, but mechanical issues sidelined us, and those issues carried over to Sunday,” Ryan Bernal said.

Friday night at the Ocean Speedway, Bernal would time his Metal Works/Keizer Wheels/S&S Automotive No. 56 entry in 11th fastest in qualifying time trials placing him in the third row of his heat race.

Finishing fifth, the Hollister, CA driver would advance to the feature event where he would line up in the sixth row for the 30-lap feature. On a racy surface, Bernal was able to settle in and make a move towards the front.

Showing he had a very strong car on this night, Bernal would cap off an impressive run from the middle of the field to procure a fifth place finish.

Bolting the 410ci power plant into the MPM No. 56 frame rails, Bernal and company would make the trip to the Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, CA. Timing in fifth fastest in time trials, Bernal would win his heat race and move into the Dash.

Finishing third in the Dash, Bernal would line up in the second row for the 30-lap A Main event. On a slick surface, Bernal would have a nice outing going as he battled with the likes of Kyle Hirst and Shane Golobic.

Late in the feature event, something would go amiss aboard his machine, and Bernal would pull off the racing surface just nine markers shy of the checkered flag.

Hoping to have the problem rectified, Bernal and company would follow the KWS Series to the Stockton Dirt Track for a Sunday night program.

Timing in ninth fastest in qualifying time trials, Bernal would win his heat race going away and again move into the Dash. Lining up in the second row of the Dash, Bernal would look for another strong starting position for the feature event, but when the green flag dropped, something again would go sour aboard his machine.

Going back to his trailer hoping to make it back out for the feature event, the problem would prove terminal and his night would come to a close.

“It was disappointing to have issues, but we had a pretty good racecar all three nights,” Bernal added. “I really want to thank my guys for working so hard for me and trying to get our issues fixed, but it wasn’t meant to be.”

Bernal and the Mike Phulps Motorsports team would like to thank Keizer Wheels, DMI, S&S Automotive, King Racing Products, Metal Works, Hoosier Racing Tires, Core Power, ART Chassis, Tri-L Mandarin Ranch, Tel-Tac, Willwood, Joe Hunt Magnetos, Permatex, Alan Kaiser Construction, Outlaw Graphics, BR Motorsports, FK Rod Ends, STIDA, Rockwell Security, ButlerBuilt, GoScope, 4 Alarm Promotions, and Dean Dealy Motorsports for their support during the 2014 season.

2016 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-5, Wins-0, Top 5’s-2, Top 10’s-3.
