PETERSEN MEDIA- Taking on the stars and cars of the USAC National Sprint Car Series and the USAC/CRA Series during the Oval Nationals, Ryan Bernal is looking to quickly put a disappointing weekend behind him as he heads to Tucson, AZ this weekend for the Western World Championships.

“I couldn’t seem to time trial well all weekend, and during the A on Saturday night fuel issues plagued us,” Bernal said. “I have to thank my guys for all of their effort, but it was just a disappointing weekend, and we are all looking forward to Western World’s.”

Kicking the Oval Nationals off last Thursday night, Bernal would time his Metal Works/Keizer Wheels/DMI No. 56 machine in 22nd fastest before scoring the win during his heat race.

Transferring into the 30-lap feature event, the 2015 California Sprint Week Champion would get moving forward in what was a non-stop feature event. From the 11th row, Bernal would work his way up to a 12th place finish when the checkered flag flew on the first night of action.

Back in action on Friday night, the Hollister, CA pilot would not time in where he would have liked as he timed in 19th quickest on this night. A third place finish during his heat race would again transfer him into the feature event though he would have his work cut out for him for the second consecutive tonight.

Just as he did on Thursday night, Bernal would again work his way forward in the feature event gaining valuable Oval Nationals points as he finished in the 14th position during the feature event.

Timing in 13th fastest on Saturday night, Bernal would finish second in his heat race and safely advance into the 40-lap $25,000-to-win feature event, as he gridded the field from the sixth row.

Racing with Richard Vander Weerd in the early stages of the finale, Bernal would have mechanical issues arise on his Mike Phulps Motorsports machine, and his weekend would come to an early end.

“Oval Nationals is a tough race, and it is one I want to win very badly, but it wasn’t in the cards this year,” Bernal said. “We have a strong team, and I am already focused on getting to Tucson.”

Bernal and the Mike Phulps Motorsports team would like to thank Keizer Wheels, DMI, S&S Automotive, King Racing Products, Metal Works, Hoosier Racing Tires, Core Power, ART Chassis, Tri-L Mandarin Ranch, Tel-Tac, Willwood, Joe Hunt Magnetos, Permatex, Alan Kaiser Construction, Outlaw Graphics, BR Motorsports, FK Rod Ends, STIDA, Rockwell Security, ButlerBuilt, GoScope, 4 Alarm Promotions, and Dean Dealy Motorsports for their support during the 2014 season.

2015 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-52, Wins-11, Top 5’s-25, Top 10’s-31.

ON TAP: Bernal and his Mike Phulps team will now travel to the USA Raceway to compete in the Western World Championships taking place Thursday-Saturday night.
