PETERSEN MEDIA- Ryan Bernal and his Mike Phulps Motorsports team made the trip south to the Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, CA on Saturday night, and Bernal thrilled the crowd as he made a last lap pass to score his fourth win of 2015.
“The track was pretty technical, and I struggled early,” Bernal said. “I had to be patient, and it came to us, and we ended up grabbing the win.”
With 21 cars checked in the pit area, Bernal timed the Keizer Wheels/Tri-L Mandarin Ranch/King Racing Products No. 56 machine in second fastest, before working his way to a second place finish in heat race action.
Lining up in the third row for the 30-lap feature, Bernal was very patient in his pursuit to the front, as he raced with DJ Johnson, and Jace Vander Weerd.
Working his way by Vander Weerd to get into the second spot, Bernal then focused his efforts on race leader, Danny Faria. With Faria out front, and setting a very torrid pace, Bernal continued to run a very patient race, as he slowly reeled the leader in.
In the closing stages of the race, Bernal had worked his way to Faria’s back bumper and began to pressure him for the top spot. With 28 laps in the books, the Hollister, CA driver made the move to grab the top spot as he took the white flag. Leading the final two laps of the evening, Bernal would pick up his fourth win of the season in what was his eighth start.
“I really have to thank my guys for all of their hard work, and giving me a really good car,” he said. “I was able to be patient, and make my moves when I had to, and it worked out in the end for us”
