Bubba DeCaires 10th with Brian Sperry Racing at Petaluma Speedway

PETERSEN MEDIA: Getting the call to run Brian Sperry’s No. 51 car for the 2018 C&H Veteran Enterprises Wingless Series pres. by Hunt Magnetos, Bubba DeCaires put a tough season opener behind him as he was able to fight forward to finish 10th on Saturday night at Petaluma Speedway.

“Saturday night the track was pretty rough and tough to get used to,” DeCaires said. “Mix that in with me still trying to get used to a non wing sprint car and it made for a bit of a tough night.”

Timing the C&H Veteran Enterprises/Benic Enterprise/Santomauro Racing Products No. 51 in 23rd quickest in qualifying time trials, the Elk Grove, CA youngster would go on to finish seventh in his heat race.

Still trying to acclimate, DeCaires would take advantage of getting added laps in the ‘B’ Main. From the back of the pack, DeCaires would mix it up with some veteran non-wing drivers as he looked to get one of the six transfer positions into the feature event.

Finishing seventh and just missing the transfer, DeCaires would find himself in the show as the first alternate as another driver would be unable to make the call.

Lining up in the 22nd starting position, DeCaires would string some great laps together as he visibly became more comfortable lap after lap after lap. Working his way forward and keeping his nose clean, DeCaires soon found himself in striking distance for a Top-10.

Staying with it, DeCaires would get the position as he took the checkered flag and recorded his first Top-10 with the series.

“I am very thankful to be making laps, and havae to thank Brian Sperry for the opportunity,” DeCaires added. “We made a ton of laps on Saturday night and rolled it back to the trailer with a Top-10 and we are very happy with that.”

Brian Sperry Racing would like to thank C&H Veteran Enterprises, Benic Enterprise, Santomauro Racing Products, Jarrett Soares Racing, and Bailey Bros. Racing Engines for their support in 2018.
