Bubba DeCaires 8th in Friday Night Fall Nationals B Before Saturday Heat Wreck Cuts Night Short

PETERSEN MEDIA: Taking part in the final event of the season at Silver Dollar Speedway, Bubba DeCaires was pleased with the progress he made during the Fall Nationals opener, but getting collected in a huge wreck at the start of his heat race ultimately ended his weekend.

“Friday night was a so-so night for us,” Bubba DeCaries said. “I didn’t time in well at all, and with 59 cars checked in, it was a tall order to bounce back from. I did think we raced pretty well, but our night ultimately ended in the B.”

With 59 cars checked into open the 2023 Pacific Sprint Fall Nationals, DeCaires timed his Thompson’s Toyota/Morrison Concrete/MaxSells.Net backed No. 94 entry in 10th fastest in his qualifying flight.

Lining up 10th in his heat race, the Elk Grove, CA driver had a great start, but the yellow flag was needed and wiped his move off the board. The second start did not go as well, and he ultimately finished 10th on a very fast surface.

Forced into the ‘C’, DeCaires was on the front row of the 10-lap race with four transfers to the ‘B’ up for grabs.

Getting the jump when the ‘C’ came to life, DeCaires quickly stretched his early advantage out as he soon found the rear of the field. Racing through a bit of tricky traffic in the ‘C’, DeCaires picked up the win and kept his night alive as he advanced into the ‘B’.

With the track still extremely fast, DeCaires had his work cut out for himself as he lined up in the 17th starting position.

Able to work his way forward in the fast-paced semi, DeCaires worked his way up to eighth before a mid-race yellow flag waived. Not getting the restart he wanted, DeCaires slipped back to ninth briefly before getting into eighth in the closing laps, which ended his night.

While he was in action on Saturday night, in his heat race the front row got together and it made for a huge wreck that DeCaries was collected in, and it caused enough damage to end his night.

“We did make some good progress Friday, but then Saturday we just got caught up in a wreck that tore a lot of equipment up,” he added. “It probably will end our season in the family car, and I am hopeful to put a deal together that will still let us run Trophy Cup, but time is not on our side for that currently.”

DeCaires would like to thank Thompson’s Toyota, Morrison Concrete, MaxSells.Net, Wion’s Body Shop, and El Dorado Hills Landscaping for their support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races-17, Wins-0, Top 5’s-2, Top 10’s-5
