Bubba DeCaires Eyes Redemption at Placerville Speedway

PETERSEN MEDIA: Picking up a fifth place finish the last time out at Placerville Speedway, Greg DeCaires is already looking forward to this weekend’s event back on the red clay after having a rough night at the Mark Forni Classic.

“At the beginning of July, we had a really good run and I was confident heading into Saturday night,” DeCaires said. “We timed in well, but after that we just struggled and I couldn’t make anything happen.”

With 29 cars checked into Placerville Speedway on Saturday night for the 18th Annual Mark Forni Classic, DeCaires got his night underway by timing the Thompson’s Toyota/Morrison Concrete/MaxSells.Net backed No. 94 in 10th fastest.

Lining up on the front row of his heat race, the Elk Grove, CA driver settled into second as he worked his way around the slick ¼ mile bullring. Not qualifying for the nightly redraw, DeCaires was securely in the feature event and rolled off the starting grid from the 10th spot.

A track rework prior to the feature put a ton of moisture back into the racing surface and made passing tough during the opening stanzas. Running in 12th during the opening laps, DeCaries moved into 11th when an early tangle caused a couple cars ahead of him to come to a stop.

The restart however saw him drop back to 14th as the inside lane bottle dup coming back to green. Working back into 11th, DeCaires bobbled and fell back to 14th, before slipping back to 17th on a lap 17 restart.

Making the decision to call it a night, DeCaries pulled off the racing surface on the 20th lap, and decided to quickly turn his attention to this Saturday’s upcoming event.

“I just got put in a couple of bad spots, and I put myself in some bad spots as well, so I opted to call it a night,” DeCaires said. “We will forget about it, and focus on being better this Saturday night.”

DeCaires would like to thank Thompson’s Toyota, Morrison Concrete, MaxSells.Net, Wion’s Body Shop, and El Dorado Hills Landscaping for their support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races-12, Wins-0, Top 5’s-2, Top 10’s-4

ON TAP: DeCaires returns to action on Saturday night at Placerville Speedway.
