Bubba DeCaires Just Misses Out on Bradway Memorial Feature Event

PETERSEN MEDIA: A stout field of cars checked into Placerville Speedway on Friday night for the opening night of the Dave Bradway Jr Memorial. Bubba DeCaires gave it a valiant effort fighting for the final transfer into the feature event, but the Elk Grove, CA driver came up just short and ended up finishing fifth in the ‘B’.

“Friday was a tough night for us against a very tough field of cars,” Bubba DeCaires said. “We didn’t get timed in well and that dictated how the rest of our night went as it put us in the back of our heat race.”

Timing the Thompson’s Toyota/Morrison Concrete/MaxSells.Net No. 94 in ninth in his group, DeCaires lined up in the fifth row of his heat race. From the ninth starting position, DeCaires needed to work his way into the Top-Five to transfer directly into the feature event and that was a tall order in a 10-lap shootout.

In a non-stop race, DeCaries picked up one position as he finished eighth and locked into the ‘B’ and avoided a trip into the night’s C-Main.

Lining up ninth in the ‘B’, DeCaires had more work ahead of him as only four transfer positions were up for grabs in the 15-lap semi. On a slick Placerville Speedway surface, DeCaires got a nice jump as he worked his way into fifth in the opening laps of the race.

Still, on the outside looking in, DeCaries fought hard until a late yellow bunched the field back up and gave DeCaries a great opportunity to challenge for the final transfer into the ‘A’.

Another strong start allowed DeCaires to work into fourth as he needed to hang on for a couple of trips around Placerville Speedway. On the final lap, DeCaires was under pressure for the fourth position, and coming to the checkered he lost the spot at missed out on the transfer into the feature.

“On the last lap I really focused on not missing the bottom and in the end, it cost us as we lost the last transfer spot,” DeCaires said. “I think we race well, I just need to find a couple more tenths in qualifying to help our cause earlier in the night.”

DeCaires would like to thank Thompson’s Toyota, Morrison Concrete, MaxSells.Net, Wion’s Body Shop, and El Dorado Hills Landscaping for their support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races-7, Wins-0, Top 5’s-1, Top 10’s-3

ON TAP: DeCaires will be idle this weekend but will return to action on June 17th in Hanford, CA.
