PETERSEN MEDIA: To sum up Tanner Carrick’s weekend in one word is pretty simple; busy. Running in Merced, CA on Friday Carrick then made his way to Duquoin, IL on Saturday before returning home to run in Petaluma, CA on Sunday and picked up a couple of Top-10 finishes.
“It was a pretty wild weekend with the traveling, but we were really fast all three nights,” Carrick said. “We didn’t have the best luck, but still made the best of the hands we were dealt and picked up a couple of good finishes.”
Kicking the weekend off at home in the Carrick Motorsports No. 83T with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour, Carrick kicked things off by picking up a heat race win and making his way into a qualifier.
Losing a couple of positions in his qualifier, Carrick’s 7th place finish forced him into one of the twin semis. Running second in the semi, Carrick punched his ticket into the feature where he would grid the field from the 19th starting position.
In the feature, Carrick felt something go south on the suspension of his car and made the decision to pull back to pit area and call it a night.
Hopping on a flight, Carrick made his way to Illinois where he met up with his Petry Motorsports team for the Shamrock Classic.
Picking up a heat race win, Carrick would again make his way to a qualifier just as he did back in California on Friday night. A seventh place finish in the qualifier forced him into the ‘B’.
Out in front of the semi, a troublesome flat tire would force Carrick to pull into the infield and give him a DNF. Luckily able to take a provisional, Carrick tagged the field from the 21st starting position and would go on to put on a show.
From dead last, Carrick had his elbows up as he carved his way forward. Able to put his machine wherever he needed to go to pass cars, Carrick was able to work towards the Top-10.
Cracking the Top-10 late, Carrick capped a very strong run with an eighth place finish.
Making the return trip back to his native California for another tilt with the ASCS National Tour in Petaluma, CA, Carrick would gain a ton of passing points in his heat race as he charged from sixth to second aboard the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil machine.
Qualifier action saw the youngster going from sixth to fifth, which placed him sixth on the starting grid for the 30-lap feature event.
Keeping his machine well inside the Top-10 during the duration of the race, Carrick would soon find himself battling for position with younger brother, Blake. Battling hard with Blake in the race’s closing laps, the younger Carrick would get the better of the older, as Tanner capped his weekend off with a ninth place finish.
“Thanks to both crews for giving me really good cars all weekend long, and to my family for letting me go back and forth, ‘ Carrick said. “Had a ton of fun all weekend, and looking forward to Chico in the sprint car this weekend.”
Tanner Carrick would like to thank CVC, Cemex, Interstate Oil, Conti, Harris and Sloan, Emerald, Timberworks Construction, Arai, and Spike Chassis for their support.
