Carson Macedo and Tarlton Motorsports Cap 2020 With Pair of Runner Up Finishes at Copper Classic

PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning home to close his 2020 season out with Tarlton Motorsports, Carson Macedo capped a strong month with the famed team by picking up a pair of second place finishes at Arizona Speedway during the Copper Classic.

“Huge thanks to Tom and Tommy Tarlton for providing me with great equipment and allowing us to be in position to win a couple of races,” Macedo said. “Also, a big thanks to Paul Baines and Tyrone Tyra for working hard and getting this car really strong all weekend.”

A loaded field of 55 cars checked in for the two-night affair that continue to grow year after year. Running the ASCS format, Macedo would get the weekend kicked off by surging to a heat race win.

Putting on a nice charge in his qualifier, Macedo would pocket a second-place finish aboard the Tarlton and Son, Inc./Executive Auto Sales/Pabco Gypsum backed entry and find himself on the pole of the feature event.

A three-car battle for the lead with Rico Abreu and Kyle Larson saw Macedo settle into the second spot early in this one as he chased after Larson who set a torrid pace early. As traffic came into play, Macedo quickly erased Larson’s sizeable lead and poked his nose under his former boss.

Sliding up in front of Larson, Macedo would briefly take command of the race on the 12th lap but would see Larson race by back on the 13th circuit. Keeping pace with Larson in the closing stages of the feature, Macedo couldn’t build up enough momentum to mount another charge as he capped the night with a second-place finish.

Back in action on Saturday night for one final race in 2020, Macedo would finish fifth in heat race competition before running third in his qualifier.

Transferring directly into the feature event, the Lemoore, CA pilot would roll off the starting grid from the sixth position.

When the race came to life Macedo would keep his mount inside the Top-5 as he found himself battling with the likes of Buddy Kofoid and Garret Williamson in the early stages of the feature.

On a reworked surface that saw a ton of big moves inside the Top-5, Macedo would soon work his way up into the fourth position as he hooked up in a very entertaining battle with JJ Hickle.

Exchanging the final podium spot with HIckle for several laps, Macedo would finally clear the Washington driver and close in on second running Rico Abreu. Using a last lap move to get around Abreu, Macedo would cap his 2020 season out with another second-place finish.

“Overall the weekend went pretty well,” Macedo added. “Obviously we want to win these races, but the 57 team is awfully hard to beat. I felt like we did a great job all weekend, and again thanks to Tom and Tommy Tarlton for allowing us to head out to Arizona and get a couple ore races in.”

Tarlton Motorsports would like to thank Tarlton and Son, Inc., Executive Auto Sales, Pabco Gypsum, Bandy and Associates, All Star Performance, and BG Lubricants for their support through the 2020 season.
