PETERSEN MEDIA- Making his first weekly start of the season at Placerville Speedway on Saturday night, Cody Lamar would flirt with his first win of the season until some late mistakes in traffic saw him slip back to finish fourth.

“We had a good night going, but I made some costly mistakes late in the race and it took us out of contention to record our first win of the season,” Cody Lamar said.

Timing the A1 Septic/Joe Hunt Magnetos/NAAKE Suspension backed No. 9l entry in fifth fastest amongst the 30 cars checked into the pit area, Lamar would line up in the second row of his heat race.

Running a nice heat race, the Sacramento, CA driver would finish in the third spot and with a little help he found himself in the all-important redraw. With lady luck continuing to ride with him on this night, the one pill put Lamar on the pole to start the 25-lap feature event.

When the green flag waived, Lamar would jump out to the early lead on a tricky Placerville Speedway surface. Setting a nice pace, Lamar would break away from the field as the cars battled for position behind him.

Despite an early stoppage, Lamar would use a strong restart to break away from the field again as he continued to set a very torrid pace out front. As laps clicked down traffic would come into play and Colby Wiesz and Sean Becker would close in on Lamar.

Racing three-wide at times, Lamar would fend off the challenges until the 20th lap when a bobble would see Becker surge to the top spot. When he was able to get back up to speed, Lamar had dropped a couple of positions as he slipped back to the fourth spot where he would end up taking the checkered flag.

“It is definitely disappointing to give one up like that, but it was good to have a fast car and be up in the mix,” Lamar said.

Cody and his team would like to thank A1 Septic, Joe Hunt Magnetos, and NAAKE Suspension for their continued support.

2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-10, Wins-0, Top 5’s- 4, Top 10’s-5

ON TAP: Lamar is set to be in action on Saturday night as he returns to action with the SCCT at Antioch Speedway.
