PETERSEN MEDIA- One week removed from a Top-10 finish during the Mark Forni Classic at Placerville Speedway, Colby Copeland put together another good run at the famed ¼ mile on Friday night as he tallied a third place finish with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour.

“It was a really good weekend for the team,” Copeland said. “We had a really fast racecar both nights, but unfortunately a part failure on Saturday night knocked us of the race early.”

Friday night at Placerville Speedway, Copeland got his night started off by timing the Econo Lube-n-Tune & Brakes No. X1JR sprinter in third quickest during his qualifying group, which lined him up on the front row of his heat race.

On a very racy Placerville Speedway during heat race action, Copeland took care of business as he got off to a nice start and went on to pick up the heat race win and lock himself into the all-important Dash.

In a spirited battle with Justyn Cox in the Dash, Copeland would end up with a second place finish, which was still good enough to line him up on the front row of the 40-lap feature event.

Settling into the second position when the race came to life, Copeland would go to work on the cushion as he chased after Cox who had jumped out to the early lead. As Copeland raced in the second spot he would feel pressure from both Cory Eliason and Shane Golobic as they quickly got into lapped traffic.

Falling back to fourth just before the race’s half way point, Copeland would use a late restart to surge back into third spot as he claimed the final position on the podium when the race came to a close.

Looking for build off of the podium run on Friday night, Copeland and the F&F Racing team checked into Stockton Dirt Track on Saturday night for the penultimate SCCT race of the season.

Just narrowly missing the heat race inversion in qualifying, Copeland would end up fifth quickest in his group by .053 seconds, and would line up fifth in his heat. Putting together a very impressive 10-lap run, the Roseville, CA wheelman surged to a third place finish, which would ultimately line him up in the eighth row of the 35-lap feature event.

When the race came to life, Copeland picked up where he left off in the heat and began working his way forward. Passing cars at will, a part in the front end would fail, and it would cause Copeland’s machine to spin on the eighth lap and collect his F&F Racing teammate Mason Moore. Unable to return, Copeland’s night would come to a disappointing end.

“We were really, really good at Stockton in the feature,” Copeland said. “It is kind of a bummer the way that our night ended, but I have to thank these guys for working so hard.”

Copeland and F&F Racing would like to thank Econo Lube-n-Tune & Brakes, and CRV Carbon Solutions for their support in 2017.
