PETERSEN MEDIA- Taking the reigns to the Econo Lube-n-Tune & Brakes No. x1 JR for the first time on Saturday night, Colby Copeland gave his a valiant effort to make the first SCCT feature event, but his night would end after a wreck late in the B Main.
“We got into a little hole during time trials, and it was just tough to dig out with so many cars on hand,” Copeland said. “I have to thank the F&F Racing team for this opportunity, and hopefully we can improve in a couple of weeks.”
Having a suspension issue arise during his qualifying session, the Roseville, CA pilot would end up timing in ninth fastest in his qualifying group which would subsequently line him up ninth in his heat race with only the top-three drivers moving directly to the feature event.
From the fifth row, Copeland showed some serious speed on the tricky Antioch Raceway surface, as he seemed to pass cars at will. Copeland would get up to the fourth spot and flirt with the final transfer position only to come up just short at the line.
Moving into the ‘B’ main, Copeland would take the field from the 16th starting spot needing to finish within the top-seven to move into the 30-lap feature event. Having a strong Econo Lube-n-Tune & Brakes/CRV Carbon Solutions machine under him, Copeland was able to work his way forward and make a bid for the transfer late in the race.
Working on the final transfer spot during the race’s last lap, contact would ensue and result in Copeland taking a wild ride and bringing his night to a disappointing end.
“It is rough to wreck anytime, but especially your first night out with a new team,” Copeland added. “It is going to be a fun year with these guys, and I have to thank the companies that make it possible.”
