Cole Macedo Fights for Podium with Sprint Car Challenge Tour

PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning to Placerville Speedway on Saturday night for the Sprint Car Challenge Tour season opener, Cole Macedo battled for a podium finish after a late race incident knocked him out of the Top-Five one week ago.

“After last weekend’s ending, Saturday was a great night for our team, and I was really happy to get the guys up on the podium,” Cole Macedo said. “We were in a loaded heat race, and didn’t quite get the result there that we wanted, and needed, but we had a really good car in the feature, and fought through the field and grabbed a podium.”

With 48 cars on hand for the SCCT opener, Macedo found himself in Group Four for qualifying and his heat race, and it was chalk full of tough competition. Timing the Tarlton and Son Inc./Complete Parts and Equipment Solutions/Executive Auto Sales backed No. 21 in third fastest in the group, Macedo would finish third in his heat race.

Needing to win to earn a spot in the High Sierra Industries Dash, Macedo was securely in the feature event as he took the green from the ninth starting position. On a very wide surface for the 35-lap finale, Macedo was patient in the early goings as he spent much of the early laps running in the eighth position.

Moving into sixth just before the race’s halfway point, tight knit action would see the Lemoore, CA native slip back to eighth on the 20th lap. Continuing to work around the ¼ mile bullring, Macedo surged back into sixth on a lap 21 restart and worked into the Top-Five on the 25th lap as he took over fourth.

As laps clicked down, Macedo continued to perfect his line around the speedway as some rough spots developed and was able to work into third on the 33rd lap.

Able to fend off Tim Kaeding in the race’s closing laps, Macedo capped his charge form ninth off with a third-place finish.

“Tom and Tommy Tarlton have really put together and great program, and Drew Warner on the wrenches, I am having so much fun being back at home racing,” Macedo added. “We have been really good in our first two nights out, and it has me really excited with the 410ci schedule getting underway this week.”

BY THE NUMBERS: Races: 2, Wins: 0 Top 5’s: 1, Top 10’s: 1.
