PETERSEN MEDIA- Battling with the King of the West Series on Friday and Saturday in Watsonville, CA and Tulare, CA, Colby Copeland would come home with a Top-10 following Saturday’s feature.

“It was kind of a frustrating weekend,” Copeland said. “My guys worked extremely hard we just couldn’t get going either night.”

The doubleheader weekend kicked off in Watsonville, CA on Friday night with Copeland timing the Good Guys Rod and Custom Association/Fuel Curve/Fire Protection Management, Inc. No. 16A entry in 17th quickest in time trials.

Lining up in the third row of his heat race, the Roseville, CA pilot would pick up a couple of positions as he would pick up a fourth place finish and move directly into the 30-lap feature event.

Taking the green flag from the 16th starting position, Copeland would go to work against some of the best that California has to offer. In an eventful feature event, Copeland would pick up a handful of positions on this night as he recorded a 12th place finish.

Saturday night saw the series travel south to Tulare, CA to attack the action packed 1/3 mile bullring. Copeland would be the first car out for time trials and would time the Antaya Motorsports entry in sixth quickest.

Picking up a third place finish in his heat race, Copeland would just miss out on a spot in the Dash and would line up in the fourth row for the final 30-lap feature event of the weekend.

An uncharacteristic Thunderbowl Raceway would see many of the drivers using the low side of the speedway, with the usual top grove not up to standards. Passing would prove to be at a bit of a premium in the feature though, Copeland would race hard with the likes of Shane Golobic, Mitchell Faccinto, and Jason Statler.

When the dust settled of the fast paced event, Copeland would take the checkered in the eighth position.

“We definitely want to get this car up front where it belongs, and we will keep working at it,” Copeland said. “Thanks to Larry and everyone for their hard work and support.”

Antaya Motorsports would like to thank Good Guys Rod and Custom Association, Fuel Curve, Fire Protection Management, Inc.,  and Kaeding Performance for their support in 2018.
