PETERSEN MEDIA- Continuing to be very strong aboard the Antaya Motorsports No. 20 machine, Cory Eliason represented the Golden State very well against the World of Outlaws during the Gold Cup Race of Champions as he ran fourth on Friday night before having a mechanical issue while running fifth on Saturday night.

“We have been really good as of late, and it was really nice to run well against the World of Outlaws,” Cory Eliason said. “The guys gave me a really good car, and I wish we could have came away with a couple of Top-Five’s but sometimes bad luck happens.”

Kicking the weekend off on Friday night at Silver Dollar Speedway, Eliason would time the Good Guys Rod and Custom Association/Fuel Curve/Fire Protection Management No. 20 car in fourth quickest in his time trials flight.

Lining up on the front row of his heat race, the Kingsburg, CA wheelman would run second to fellow Californian, Dominc Scelzi, and punch his ticket to the Craftsman Club Dash where a fifth place finish put him in the third row for the 30-lap feature.

Taking the green flag from the fifth spot, Eliason would run fifth for the first half of the race, on a surface that offered drivers an extremely tricky cushion to work around.

On laps 12 and 13, Eliason would hook up in a battle with Justin Sanders for the fourth spot and would finally get the spot for good at the race’s ½ way point.

Showing he had a very strong car, Eliason would then set his sights on Scelzi who ran just ahead of him in third. In thick traffic with 10-to-go, Eliason would make a bid for the spot, but in clear track Scelzi kept him at by as he went on to score a fourth place finish with the ‘Greatest Show on Dirt’.

Returning to action on Saturday night for the Gold Cup Race of Champions finale, Eliason with take advantage of going out in the middle of his time trial flight on a surface that continued to pick up speed and ended up timing the Kaeding Performance/Cardinal Paint and Powder/Tool World backed machine in second quickest.

Running second to eventual Gold Cup Champion, Shane Stewart, in his heat race, Eliason would again move into the Dash where another fifth place finish would line him up in the third row for the 40-lap feature event.

Settling into fifth on a track that continued to stay hooked up through the night, Eliason was very fast as he ran inside the Top-Five during the fast paced feature event.

Looking to be well on his way to his second consecutive World of Outlaws Top-Five finish, Eliason would slow with issues on lap 30 with mechanical issues as his night came to an end.

“It was a disappointing end to our weekend for sure, but some good definitely came out of it,” he added. “Very thankful to be a part of this team, and I am looking forward to this weekend in Calistoga, CA.”

Antaya Motorsports would like to thank Good Guys Rod and Custom Association, Fuel Curve, Fire Protection Management, Inc., TW Performance, Kaeding Performance, Cardinal Paint and Powder, Tool World, Maas Brothers Powder Coating, and Shiro’s Collision Center for their support in 2017.
