PETERSEN MEDIA: Continuing his first full season of following the King of the West Series, Justyn Cox and his Cox Family Racing team made the trip over to Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA where Cox would finish 12th in the sixth annual Howard Kaeding Classic.

“Our car was pretty good on Saturday night, but we had an issues with our headers that caused some power loss so we ended up with a 12th place finish,” Justyn Cox explained.

Kicking his night off by timing in fastest in his qualifying group and 15th overall after going out extremely early, the Clarksburg, CA driver would find himself in the fifth starting spot for his heat race.

With a marine layer building over the speedway, the track would stay extremely fast and narrow during heat races, but Cox was able to get his Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Trex backed machine up to finish in the third spot.

Missing out of the Dash, Cox would line his PM Truck Repair/LRB/Konnected Klothing entry up in the eighth row. With the track still a little narrow in the opening rounds, it would begin to blow off and allow for passing as the race moved along.

Working his way up to the 10th spot at one point in the feature event, Cox would get out of shape in turns one and two and loose a ton of track position. As he gathered his machine up, Cox would also develop an issue with his exhaust and it would result in a bit of power loss.

Doing what he could from the back of the pack, Cox would slowly work his way back up to finish in the 12th spot.

“It was tricky once we started losing power,” Cox said. “With the track having a lot of grip, the lack of power made it hard to get around, but we were able to keep our nose clean and pick up what spots we could.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, LRB, Konnected, Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, JRD Endeavors, VSR, ART, K&N Performance, Justice Brothers, Cheetah IV Racing, E-ST Garage, Worton Designs, Manzer Motorsports, Swimming Pool Perfections, and Tim’s Hot Rod Shop for their support in 2016!

2016 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-30, Wins-1, Top 5’s-6, Top 10’s-12

ON TAP: Cox will be back in action this Friday and Saturday night as he will head to the Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA for the 3rd Annual Peter Murphy Classic.
