PETERSEN MEDIA: Making the long tow to the Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA, Justyn Cox endured a wild night of racing that ultimately saw him finish in the 13th spot on Saturday night.
“There was some things that went on during the race that didn’t make sense to me, but we got the short end of the stick which hurt us,” Cox said “In all sports there will be questionable rulings, but you just deal with it, state your piece, and move on. With that being said, I don’t think we had a car that was going to win the race, but I think we were certainly better than a 13th place car.”
Timing the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Trex backed No. 31c machine in 18th quickest during qualifying time trials, Cox would finish sixth in his heat race putting him in the 18th starting spot for the feature event.
A very tricky Thunderbowl Raceway surface greeted Cox and the rest of the field on this night, but Cox seemed to adapt well as he was up fighting for a spot in the Top-10 when the yellow flew on the 10th lap.
The restart would see a few cars get too good of a start over Cox, and he went from 11th to 15th before taking the green flag. Expecting to see the yellow, Cox continued on about his business as he now went to work on Tyler Walker who ran in front of him.
Able to pick up a few spots during the back half of the race, Cox’s night would come to an end with a 13th place finish.
“We were a little off, but I think we had Top-10 car,” Cox said. “I have to thank my guys for all of their hard work. We are making strides, and I am looking forward to Stockton this week.”
The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, LRB, Konnected, Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, JRD Endeavors, VSR, ART, K&N Performance, Justice Brothers, Cheetah IV Racing, E-ST Garage, Worton Designs, Manzer Motorsports, Swimming Pool Perfections, and Tim’s Hot Rod Shop for their support in 2016!
