PETERSEN MEDIA: Getting back in a 410ci sprint car after a long time off over the weekend in Chico, CA, Justyn Cox looks to mirror a string of success in 360ci competition at Placerville Speedway on Wednesday night when the World of Outlaws come into town.

“Friday night we had to shake some rust off and get acclimated to the 410 again, and on Saturday I felt really good, we just had a part failure while running in a transfer spot in our heat race that ended our Gold Cup,” Justyn Cox said.

Friday night Cox kicked the weekend off by timing the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Trex backed machine in 17th quickest in his qualifying flight which put him in an early hole as he adjusted to the bigger engine package.

Lining up ninth in his heat race, the Clarksburg, CA pilot would finish eighth and find himself in the ‘C’ Main event. Not having a good run, Cox would pull off early and end his Gold Cup opener.

Returning to Silver Dollar Speedway on Saturday night for the 65th Annual Gold Cup Race of Champions finale, Cox would get off to a much better start on this night as he would find himself eighth on the speed chart in his qualifying flight, and in the second row of his heat race.

When his heat came to life, Cox would settle into fourth, and look to be well on his way to the feature event. Cox’s tough weekend would ultimately go up in smoke as a part failure under the hood would bring Cox’s Gold Cup to an end.

“I felt something starting to lay down, and I opted to pull in,” Cox said. “We will put our other engine in and try again on Wednesday night in Placerville, CA. We have been pretty good there on a weekly basis this season, so hopefully we can still run well with these guys.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, LRB, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, Arai, Racing Optics, All American Powder Coating, Coos Bay Speedway, Swimming Pool Perfections, Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Moyle Race Engines, and Manzer Motorsports for their support in 2018!
